I thought Alberta insurance isn't cheaper, and actually quite a lot more expensive? |

It really depends, it can be the highest if you have any accidents or no history or you have speeding tickets/traffic tickets. Can’t make a blanket statement, it’s all over the map. My Supra is half price of ICBC ($2300 in BC, $1169 in Calgary) Kia Soul is $1900 in Calgary but was $1400 in BC Miata is $1300 but I bought that here so no idea what a NC Miata costs in BC |
Quoted myself in Edmonton for my car and current ICBC coverage. For me its cheaper in AB by about 15% because my accidents were from 8 years ago, and AMA (I'm guessing equivalent to BCAA in AB) only factors in the past 6 years. |
It's probably cuz there's kia bois in ab |

Having driven a few EVs... EVs.... are gay. Might as well slap 4 wheels on your toaster and take it for a ride! |

BUT The experience is... neck-snapping fast, but other than that... meh. It's like... there's barely any visceral feelings or sound. I didn't ask to drive it, and the dude didn't offer to let me drive it, but as far as an experience goes... yeah, it's fast, but there's just something missing with EVs. There's no shifting, going into a corner there's no sense of urgency or human-machine balance trying to match the RPMs and use engine braking to control the dynamics of corner entry... it just reminded me of being on a roller coaster ride, rather than a human being in control of a vehicle. Also the motor overheated halfway up to Big White and buddy had to go real easy on it for the 2nd half of the drive. |
yeah most EV are boring AF, they're just cheap and quiet for commuter. Ioniq 5N solves all these issues - no overheating in 3 Nurburgring lap and paddles + sound help time your corner entry and braking |

If I put ANY performance mods on... be it suspension or even a CAI or exhaust I would need to find a different company that insures modified cars and probably pay a lot more though. I don't plan on modding the car so I don't really care. |
For all the issues we have with ICBC, at least they don't screw us over for mods. |
I like that I can just wander in once a year and then wander out 15 minutes later and go do whatever I want to my car without worrying about it. Then if people want to shop the private options they can, I just can't be bothered. I figure it's a pretty good review of ICBC if most people don't even realize private is an option lol. |
They never actually look at your car here either… like if I modded it they wouldn’t know… but if I got in a fairly serious crash and they investigated the car there’s a chance you’d lose coverage. |
RAM must either think 1) CAFE standards are gone under new government 2) or they can charge enough for a HEMI to offset fines My favourite v8 is back. All were updated to work with STLA’s newest electricals. 5.7 is back in the 1500 and now the 6.4 is available Both will have a 48V mild hybrid sysrem attached TRX is back with MORE power. |
Chinese website/media company brings in a bunch of Chinese EV's/hybrids to Alaska for test drives. One of the cars is a range extended wagon. Has a 1.4 litre 4 cylinder turbo range extending engine. Makes over 1000 HP and costs 84k cad. |
That's not the lineup I thought they would bring & It's also not what I thought they would emphasize in the video. The video doesn't show charging intentionally - IM LS6 charges terrible on lower trims, upper ones are better than average and a fair alternative to Model Y Performance. - Denza Z9 GT EV (wagon) has terrible charging and range; worse than Ioniq 5N and original Taycan. - Denza Z9 GT PHEV (wagon) seems reasonable. - Yangwang U8 (offroader) at 150k USD is far more expensive than RAM REV. Because China's preferred LFP batteries really suck at fast/cold charging - The good EVs (NIO) are both pricier and worse than western alternative (NIO ET7) - Their preferred battery (LFP) struggles with fast charging and won't even charge in the cold. - Battery swap will reduce overall longevity, especially on bumpy roads due to body-battery connection stress. While Chinese OE surpass Tesla in ADAS / Route Planning / Entertainment - Comparable: Lucid, Rivian, Tesla - Roughly as function but no frills: Porsche, Ford There are many aspects of EV - It has to be easy: Is the nav on homescreen? If you put in an address, does it plan all charging AND pay for it automatically? Tesla/Porsche/Ford do this today. - If it's cheap, Hyundai's the benchmark: They must have 700km CLTC range, do 180kw average from 10-80%, 16 minutes to match or beat the Ioniq/EV6 - ADAS: Does it offer hands/eyes off assist with one button? Can it do Huawei's one click park/unpark and navigate towards destination? - Safety: How is EuroNCAP score? Even if it's good it will do poorly on US IIHS/NHTSA because of higher speed/weight/concentrated forces. - V2L: US markets use EV battery to support solar and power outage, can it deliver 6kw V2L? Best China EV is Zeekr Mix. Best Western EV is Taycan, EQS, or Lucid Gravity. Best plug-in hybrid is currently GLE450e/S580e but will become the RAM Charger*** assuming its execution isn't a disaster. |
^^ well no one is buying the new Challenger charger EV whatever it is |
Yeah that + UConnect is a total disaster. Chrysler blew a 10 year lead on responsive and simple infotainment. RAM Charger (sorry I confused them) is supposed to no compromise: - base price of 60k - better capability: 2500 level payload and towing capability from 600hp - better efficiency: no range anxiety, but also 145 miles of EV range It’s basically the setup from diesel locomotives but gas and in a truck |
69k for 440 miles or 700km of real world range is insane. 10-80% charging in 21 minutes also gives a ton of buffer for cold/bad weather. It could charge 60% slower and still beat a Model 3. |
