I never liked mclarens. Either I buy a Roma one of these days, or god forbid I get a massive head injury and end up with a stupid bitch ass beetle turbo S and join the douchebags anonymous club. Regardless I’m still keeping my Corolla.

Legit your LC is one of the best looking cars on the road

There is a black one I see relatively often in the high gate area that has perfect slightly concave rims, gorgeous car

Why not both? :fullofwin:

Swear they have by far the worse lineup of vehicles. I’m a car guy and even I can’t tell the difference. In terms of road presence and prestige this car looks exactly the same as a 10 year old $80k model

Where are you finding one for $80k? They do all look pretty similar but at least they look good. Porsche has been making the Beetle look the same for ages and hardly anyone complains.

I saw a Roma the other day, kinda pretty, better than California but I thought it's one of those junk models that they force you to buy so you can get something good like the f12.

Wouldn't you rather get a mc20, still never seen one in person but it does actually look like a super car + mid engine

Did MP4-12Cs start appreciating again? They fell to 80K for a short period during the fire sale of cars in COVID.

underscore 04-12-2025 11:54 PM

I only did a quick search on Autotrader but the cheapest I found is a 2012 for $130k in Quebec.

Interior of the mc20 is garbage. The engine is also garbage. The brand is now garbage too.

Maserati is dead to me.

What ?!! I complain all the time ! It’s ugly as fuck.

68style 04-13-2025 06:10 AM

When have you ever complained about anything? Did I miss something?

That's why I said hardly. I think you and I are the only ones here who properly hate those things.

So buying TAYCANs and EQSes and use them for trade-in's are finally going to be dead....

I assume this will hit the luxury market quite hard....

We filled up the X5 yesterday for the first time since before Christmas. We put in $50 last time, and we put in $50 today. We drove about 2700kms. We've also put in about $200 worth of electricity (~$50/m).

We've been pretty happy with it overall. Wife started a new job that requires her to commute, and the battery is more than enough for her commute in and out, and also pick up the little one from daycare.

Does the X5 forcibly cycle the ICE on every once in a while? Like conceivably to prevent anything seizing up, or fuel gunking up in the lines, that kinda thing?

JDMDreams 04-15-2025 12:07 PM

^^ I'm trying to figure this out with hybrids cuz you can't really force the engine on, but then it's constantly cold starting, and when you need power and engine kicks in you are flooring a cold engine? Must cause more wear and tear. :considered:

AstulzerRZD 04-15-2025 12:33 PM

Hybrids—it’s the battery that’s the real concern.
Older BMW PHEVs are starting to show cascading cell failures.

The engine actually sees lower load, so even motors with issues (like the Tundra’s gas V6) tend to hold up better in hybrid form. Exceptions are head gasket issue on 3rd gen Prius.

• Cold starts use EV motor to circulate things w/ 0 heat
• Super quick warmup with exhaust heat recovery coolant warming
• Prioritizes battery drive until full warmup to reduce load on ICE engine

not sute about BMWs, but Toyota do give you a physical button that cycles thru EV, Hybrid, Charge (running the gasoline to charge the EV battery which is uber uber uber inefficient), but yes, you can get the engine to start anytime of your choice.

The EV-only trips shows 0.1L of gasoline consumed on the BMW App despite not feeling the engine kicking on itself. Not sure if it's the B58 being smooth, the X5 having decent sound deadening / NVH reduction, or a combination of both.

At least on the X5, there's the option to toggle between Sport / Hybrid / Electric / Adaptive. Adaptive supposedly factors in the route guidance in the BMW nav and switches between electric / gas for max efficiency.

I haven't followed Chinese EVs much but caught a bunch of reviews about the Zeekr 7x this past week. Its chassis is partly shared with the Polestar 4 so that's promising and the reviews are generally pretty positive.

Amazing progress by the Chinese - wonder what tariff rate would be low enough to that they'd come to Canada and if Canada would be willing to negotiate on this.

JDMDreams 04-18-2025 10:22 AM

I really want Chinese cars, I want the wu ling. If it's ok in Europe and Australia I don't see why it's not good enough for us.

The Polestar 4 is also going to get the golden brick battery that goes from 10-80% in 13 minutes claimed (9-10 minuets in some test).

On WeChat, we know that battery has bricked in more than a few cars so it'll take some time to iterate.
