Definitely a downgrade from a midsize X5, but I think at least going hybrid is the way to go going forward (Premium fuel almost $2/L..). Will miss this B58 engine though :D

There is a PHEV X5 that's rated for 50km electric range, but realistically closer to 35km. It has the same sweet B58.

How long did you end up waiting?

I can confirm that the Rav4 from the interior feels very low rent. Perhaps even more so that the Corolla hatch rental I had. Not saying it won't be reliable or not worth MRSP (it is), but try it out, see if its something that you can live with.

Yes - frankly our 2014 Santa Fe fully loaded felt nicer...

I pre-ordered a Soul EV last month thinking it'd take a few months to arrive, but I just got a call that it's now ready for delivery. This completely threw my timeline off, but I guess I can start saving on gas sooner rather than later.

about 4 months wait time which isn't bad.

i asked him about the bz4x and the list is long already. might hold off until maybe second gen of the bz4x

Or just get in line for the rest of the bz EV family.

I'm not well versed on this and can't seem to find a clear answer on this, but are federal and provincial incentives treated like a down payment and taxable for a lease?

When I leased my Leaf, the incentives went on after the taxes.
So you are taxed for the full amount of the car.

Right, the part where tax on the car is calculated before the rebates are applied makes sense and clear to me. What I'm unclear about is whether the $5000 federal and $3000 provincial rebates themselves are subject to taxes in addition to the taxes on the vehicle.

My dealer is charging me taxes on the rebates, and I'm probably wrong on this, but I was under the impression the rebates were applied at face value and not taxed.

Yeah that doesn't sound right.
Might want to get them to put it in writing.

When you get a $1 off coupon, it's usually $1 off, not $0.88 off.

I thought the rebates were applied after taxes?

lilaznviper 03-02-2022 02:13 PM

for my understand, rebates are applied after taxes

Yeah OP understands that part.
It sounds like the dealership is confused and is trying to tax the rebate portion, so the $8000 rebate is only worth $7040 off the total amount which is incorrect.

I knew I was going to be in the market for an EV eventually, but didn’t realize it would be now… with car stock levels so low, it is impossible to test drive or even see one in person before committing to buy? Interested in the new Hyundai Ioniq-5…

The dealers should have Ioniq 5 models on the lot - I've seen them there in the past few months. I'm sure they'll at least open the door of a sold unit for you to look at. Even with the EV6 I was able to get a look inside.

I asked around and turns out the rebate is taxable on a lease. The deal can be structured where either the rebate is reduced so that I don't have to pay anything upfront but with a higher lease payment, or the full rebate amount is applied and I paid taxes on it upon delivery (what my dealer quoted me).

Gold Key VW in Surrey/Langley has the ID4 on their lot for test drives and one in their showroom.

My BIL over the weekend put a deposit down for Ioniq5. Was told his wait time is Dec 2023

68style 03-09-2022 09:25 AM

^ And he still put down his deposit? The fuck? hahaha

Doesn't think something else better is going to come out in 2 freaking years?

GLOW 03-09-2022 09:36 AM

deposit is fully refundable though right?

Depends how it's written up: https://www.mvsabc.com/Consumer-Land...acts/deposits/

My buddy recently pre-ordered/bought a 2022 BRZ and the deposit was NOT refundable.

They already have the Kona EV. They'd like to stick with Hyundai. I suggested Tesla but they don't want that. I thought everyone here is gaga over the Ioniq??

68style 03-09-2022 11:19 AM

Even if I liked the Ioniq, the rate stuff is releasing it's going to be old news by Dec 2023
