While I'm in this thread, I might as well report on something I saw at the Coquitlam Superstore charger this morning. Actually, I saw the EV the night before, too, but it was way too busy and the driver couldn't wait for me to finish and the Kia Should that was after me in line, to start charging. It's a Mercedes Benz all electric SUV. Cot Dam, that thing was sweet. It'll make one wAnder why anyone would even consider a Tesla. It's called an EQC. Not even available here till next year. It's only available in Germany at the moment. Anyway, the driver was part of the research team testing out the charging capabilities of the beast of a machine. Did I tell you this thing was a beauty? It was down right sexy as all hell. The technology in it was amazing. Heads up display. A true one, not one of those cheesy ones you see in Kia's and Hyundai's. Split folding console and a gorgeous dash. None of this one screen monstrosity you see in Tesla's. This car was luxury at its best. Dude let me open the doors and see inside. I was scared to touch anything that luxurious. He was definitely proud of this car............ in the back was a rack full of electronics and sensing/recording devices. He was fine tuning stuff on a laptop. Anyway, I was late for Hard Rock Casino, so I had to go. I had a really nice conversation with the guy. It didn't occur to me to take any photos or videos. Okay, I snuck a walk around video in there, but won't upload or share, out of courtesy. The guy was genuinely a nice technician.
I've been seeing this one Jaguar all electric vehicle at the Marine Drive Superstore DC Fast Charger and I thought that was one nice looking car. This Mercedes is a whole nother level...........

At the Grandview Superstore using their fast charger. Nobody for over half an hour. I’m going right up to 100%, unless another EV shows up. I don’t want to be like some of the EV charger hogs out there. If you have an EV that uses the CCS system, it’s been down since yesterday. Bummer. Of the four years I’ve been doing the charging thing, it seems the CCS Combo plugs is by far, the most unreliable of the two. Everything from Proximity error to broken clips.
I’m looking at a Niro, Kona, or Soul with the 400+ range, but damn. They all use the CCS Combo connector. People are pretty rough when equipment doesn’t belong to them. Then they get all whiny when shit breaks. Maybe take extra care in putting the plug back into the holster or coil up the cable. People leave the cable all over the place - get run over and shit. The level 2 chargers in the Richmond mall where Walmart is, is a prime example. Take care of the equipment and it’ll take care of you. /sermon.

The "one screen thing" is actually pretty awesome. I've been driving my model 3 for over a year now and it is really easy to get use to. That and the Model 3 is WAY less money than the EQC.
The EQC is a great looking vehicle in it's own right but it's not a competitor of the Model 3, it's more of a Model X competitor. The model X has a screen where your Speedo/Tach is and a screen in the centre. However, the EQC seems to have a leg up on the X in the luxury category. I still prefer the way Tesla get's rid of the physical buttons though, hopefully other manufacturers like MB can start to adopt this from Tesla.
I don't bother charging there anymore, but there are people who really need to charge. Like out of towners.
Funny story. YVR long term parking has a row of charge point lvl 2 chargers where the chargers can only be reached by one side. So if you park behind the chargers, the cable won't reach. And last time i was there, every charger was being used and when i came back, weekend trip, most still had the same cars charging.

Interesting. There are 4 free lvl 2 chargers at the Whole Foods in Burnaby.
2 of which has a sign that says for EV car use only. No hybrids.
Hybrid plug in cars must use the other 2 chargers.
I find that quite interesting.

Probably because they can run off gasoline. When a pure electric vehicle needs a charge, they need a charge. Don’t get me started on Outlander PHEV owners.

I still wish the last gen of Rav4's came in a full electric.
Next time I see you, I'll bug you about the Outlander. curious to see what you have to say.

Just finished talking to a couple of BC Hydro technicians about the crappy charging station at the Coquitlam Superstore. They told me that their plan was to twin the existing station. They’re having issues getting the power requirement met, first. Now that all the new stations along the corridors throughout the Province have been completed, their plan is to twin all existing stations.
The temporary charging unit at the Coquitlam Superstore is slower than molasses in the summertime. For my EV, it’s not an issue, however, EV’s with much higher capacity batteries, it’s really, really shitty. That affects me, because the lineups are longer.

I didn't use it this summer, when did it become that slow?
I was going to go after work today for a quickie but now I might just skip it and go straight home.

The original station died and got temporarily replaced with a slow ass one. 25kW, but like Justin Trudeau, it’s not as advertised. The temporary one has been there for a very long time now. Anyway...........

PSA: If anyone on here goes to the Superstore on Grandview Highway to charge their EV, beware of this driver of a black Kia Soul. It's black with a red roof. The rear window has a decal of two criss-crossed lacrosse sticks on it.
Do not approach the driver. She is certifiable. If the "%hinky, %hinky China Lady," woman had a twin sister, this woman would be her. In all the years I've been to public charging stations, she is definitely not the norm. There were two of us parked and waiting to charge. I talked to the driver of the car that was charging, soon after I arrived. He told me he was almost done and the other lady in the Soul was waiting. After the first driver left. I moved over one stall and got out to talk to the woman in the Soul. When I asked her how long she would be, she yelled, "None of your god damn business!" Then when I looked over to the display to see how much she had left to charge, she freaked out and snapped, "What the hell are you looking at??" She even attempted to cover the screen, lol.
I guess I'm getting old and just didn't have a comeback ready. What I should have said was, "Definitely not you, bitch." I mean, if the Oxford Dictionary used images to define the word "Butch," it would be her. She was one helluva miserable woman. One of those faces where a smile would not ever find its way. Just angry.
I immediately put up my hands in the air and went into the car, making sure not to make eye contact. At this point, I didn't care how long she was going to be. The signs on the premises read, maximum of 30 to 40 minutes of charging. I for sure thought she would be there for over an hour. Surprisingly she was there for maybe 35 minutes? Cray is a helluva thang. Incidents like this at a charging station are very, very rare. She must have had a really bad day. If I see that car charging there or anywhere again, I'm just going to drive on.
I feel sorry for this woman. Being angry and bitchy like that takes its toll on everybody. Her family and coworkers have to deal with her on a daily basis.
Anyway, you guys have been warned.

is it gonna have the doritos range extender?
door trim made of recycled plastic bottles hahaha
That actually looks really good.
Something interesting.
A UK company is releasing a compact electric crate motor that makes 110 HP. measures 23.6 inches wide, 17.3 inches deep, 11.02 inches tall and weighs only 154 pounds. One of my buddies owns a smart car and has been thinking of going electric and this would be perfect paired with some refurb Prius batteries. Would also be a good fit for an older Civic.

I thought about your post when I read this in the Sun today.
It sounds to me like that as "green" as BC vehicle owners may seem like, their public charging ettiquette is severely lacking. That is unfortunate, but I am not the least bit surprised given how discourteous our drivers are on the road.
There are 2 "free" chargers at work here, and from what I've been told by my colleagues, user ettiquette are generally decent, although there will always be some discourteous person breaking the rules.
Seriously considering leasing a UX250h F-Sport when the lease for my IS300/200t is up next summer. Took it for a test drive, was pleasantly surprised by how well the ride was.
I was expecting it to feel egregiously uninspiring and slow, but as a matter of fact, I actually liked the ride better than that of my current IS300 (much stiffer chassis translated into much lower NVH), and acceleration was brisk enough to not make me lament driving.
I think the UX250h F-Sport is as much as the gf is willing to compromise with me (she doesn't want a hybrid), otherwise I'd be looking into a Prius Prime

I was "one" of those ppl a few weeks back. Parked in long term parking at YVR with my car plugging into one of the chargers there.
In my defense, I would have moved my car, but I was in Chicago.
In seriousness, most of these issues would be easily solved by them not being "free" chargers, and more education about extending battery life. Most ppl grew up with ICE vehicles and treat owning an EV the same. Filling the "tank" to full when 80% is more than enough.
As for unplugging other ppls cars, I still have issues with that.

if not hybrid just buy the rolla hatch...same car but cheaper interior/less NVH dampening
