Saw a white rivian today didn't know they are out in Canada
I've seen a few around (not sure if it's the same vehicle), but I'm pretty sure they're driven by Rivian employees. They look pretty neat in person, somewhere in size between a Tacoma and a F-150
I never drove an Element but it seemed to be a classic Honda kinda car to make - a bit quirky but remarkable for the target market. An EV Element would probably be a lot like the VW ID.Buzz - a huge box on wheels which some folks (like me) would love.
The problem with EV design is that you need it to have a very low drag coefficient. It's not a huge deal for ICE when the difference is 25mpg average vs. 26mpg average. But an inefficient design would absolutely make a dent on range.
And you either have more batteries to offset (increasing cost of vehicle) the drag, have lower range or do a better design. ICE have a lot of tolerance on bad designs or form over function. EVs doesn't have that luxury.
Before anyone wants to say how Cybertruck is angular and whatever... its design is actually very good from a aerodynamic perspective.

I spotted this one back in August in Kerrisdale, sharp looking truck and a pretty reasonable size (looks smaller than its measurements). I'm told the ones in town are used by Rivian employees for testing.
What do they do with all that area in front of the windscreen? I imagine the batteries are on a skateboard, and I suppose there is an electric engine up there but do they keep it that size for style or is there something else in it?
what is the cheapest Rav4 class EV suv? Time is not an issue. will wait 2+ years.
Thinking Rav 4 prime but seeing what other options available.
what is a good wagon (think kia Niro) class EV with AWD? can wait 2+ years.
not interested in: Kia Ev6, Model Y.
looking for japanese. reasonably priced (80k is not reasonable)

No, MSRP on prime is like $59or $62k, but with markups CPO it's like $75k.
My father in law also looking for similar, crossover or compact SUV with Awd.
Nissan Ariya looks to be getting decent reviews, AWD starts at $60.5k
Volvo C40 starts at $59k with AWD.

He said he's willing to wait, which would make the MSRP available to him if he was able to get onto the waitlist.
CPO markup only if you're needing it without waitlist and can find a used one.

After a 15 month wait, my wife finally took delivery of her VW id4 on Saturday. She got the AWD Pro version with Statement Package in red. She's really happy to no longer pay for gas as she drives from Langley to DT Vancouver for work 5 days a week and was spending about $50 every two days driving her V6 Kia Sorento.
I quite like the looks of it as it doesn't strike me as VW was trying really hard to make it "look" like an EV (EG: Ioniq 6, Nissan Ariya from one page back). The initial build quality of it seems really good. You get a nice solid thud when closing the doors, there aren't any noticeable squeaks and good panel gaps throughout. On the interior, it would be nice if they had more storage space in the front but the seats are comfortable, the panoramic roof is fantastic and I really like the interior lighting. A nice bonus is that you can also get massaging front seats, they're quite nice on longer drives. It's quite nice that they have built into the software the ability to change the interior color accents.
Speaking of the software, this is by FAR the biggest disappointment. Full disclosure, i've been driving a Model 3 for the last 4 years. Their software SUCKS. Using their built in maps felt like a Pioneer head unit from 12 years ago. I say this as my wife's last car had a Avic head unit from over 12 years ago and it felt just as intuitive as her new car. It's almost like they gave us the cheapest possible nav system as they just assume everyone will use google maps through CarPlay. The rest of the car's software menu makes no sense as well. I'm guessing some engineer's in Germany found what they thought to be the most efficient system they could think of and didn't put any thought into the end user experience. They apparently only do software updates once per year and they may or may not be over the air.
Also, a small annoyance are the touch sensitive buttons for things like climate control and stereo volume. These are basically useless at night as they aren't backlit. Unless you've memorized exactly where they are, you will not be able to find them.
I'm sure that a lot of the issues I have with the software in the car are because I am so use to the way that Tesla does things but I like to think I am fairly comfortable with technology and I just didn't find their software the least bit easy to use.
Don't let my experience with the software on this car scare any of you away from it as a lot of the issues can simply be fixed with software updates as Tesla has done over time. Hopefully they listen to their consumers and start to make changes more than once per year.
Check back in three weeks to see if the buttons thing is still an issue for you. I have a feeling a lot of this stuff is like switching from Andriod to Iphone. It's painful as hell cuz you don't know where anything is and you dont have mucle memory.
Suck it up for a few weeks and you'll feel like home. That's my theory.

He's coming from a Tesla. It's going to be like asking pretty much anyone here to switch back to their Nokia dumbphone now and see if you can get used to that.
It's more like "making do" than feeling like home.
Tesla or not the buttons and menus will still be in different places. That's why I compared it to iPhone to Android etc. They're both touch screens, but layout is different.

My wife is the one who drives the VW, not me, so it will take much longer than 3 weeks for me to get use to it. It has a lot of quirks and features that seem asinine to me but some of the software decisions that they made with the car just make no sense, me having a Tesla or not.
The majority of issues I have with it have nothing to do with the layout of the buttons but have everything to do with the functionality. The nav system is just garbage, I really don't know how they can think it is anything close to acceptable. I think my wife will have to download Waze or A Better Route Planner to have use with the car. Why can you not adjust the amount of regenerating that it does when you have 1 pedal breaking turned on? Why do you have to put the vehicle in drive twice to turn one pedal breaking on?
It's a very well built car but their software just sucks.
Are the f150 EVs out in Canada. I think I just saw one, pretty sure it is as it has the flap on drivers side, no grill vents and no exhaust, you have to look real hard to know. And spotted another rivian with Washington plates.

Yah, I've seen a couple Lightnings already in Lower Mainland. One in Burnaby and saw another in Richmond yesterday.
