I can see why they're not bothering with doing Hybrid on the Corolla Hatch with the sex-machine I mean Prius coming out. That 10K differential will be a tough pill to swallow if it comes to fruition. |
Interesting story on Vinfast, they messaged me on LinkedIn asking if I would be interested in joining their team. I left it on read lol https://jalopnik.com/vinfast-vf8-ele...u-s-1849892217 I am pretty sure not interested because I went through the process with Lucid Motors and these guys even though are selling cars, want to hire people who drink the Kool Aid before even Day 1. So glad I did not go to Lucid to be a greeter for them basically, and now calling customers to stop cancelling orders. |
I read that story on Vinfast, and I tend to believe the Jalopnik reporting. It almost sounds unreal, and yet I am not at all surprised that is what's happening. The N.American market, in particular, is generally not kind to half-baked automotive products unless it is from the Big (Domestic) 3. I'd dare say it took 15 - 20 hard years for Hyundai to get to where they are now, and it is absolutely nothing short of amazing that they kept hammering at it. The Vingroup seems like it is a really big conglomerate too, but are they gonna have the will (and cash) to burn through these years of trial by fire here? |
I honestly think all these new Viet China brands will succeed if they can sell here, and keep the price lower than traditional brands. They've built these cars up from scratch as EVs and not the other way around try to turn an existing gas platform into EV. From the reviews I've seen on YouTube on Chinese EVs they are actually pretty good. |
^ The Chinese EVs have many years of sweat and tears behind them. They didn't just come to market like that. I read the VinFast article too and it sounds pretty scathing and unlikely they'll make an impact here, and definitely not for the price they want. Keep in mind China has tried to market their EVs in California more than a decade ago and it's been a long time coming if they do come. |
Why is toyota wait time so long? Just talked to a dealer, and the wait for sequoia is 2years and 1 year for a prius prime. |

People in the comment section of FB are saying US inventory -- and therefore wait times -- are improving. While I wouldn't take that as a universal truth, there has got to be at least a degree of truth of the statement. So that begs the question -- why are things improving in the US, but not for us? (I know we are 1/10th their market size.) |
Tesla now offering discounts. https://electrek.co/2022/12/22/tesla...mand-concerns/ My dad was suppose to get his model x may/June but it got delivered early. We picked it up last weekend. Looks like demand is dropping. |
Well who's financing a new car at 7%:ohgodwhy: and they surprisingly unlike all other manufacturers were actually able to produce cars |
Just took my dads model X for a drive and I can't stop smiling. The thing is a fucking beast!!!. it has 670 HP but being electric It has 100% torque from 0 RPM so it's similar to an ice car that had 8 or 900 HP. It has a faster 1/4 mile time than my R8 and way easier to launch. I thought I would hate the yolk steering but I had no problem with it. Some people claim Tesla's don't make luxury cars but interior is nice as any other car I have driven. The only down side with the Tesla is my dad could see how fast I was going on his phone. When I got back he was not to happy. |
So coming from an R8… a sports car… on a sunny day with nothing to do… which one are you driving? Should I convert my Datsun now and be done with it? |
Did it feel like a boat though, maybe the new ones are better but the 17 I drove was quite floaty. And the seats were quite flat, hard and not sporty at all. |
Driving a Tesla, at least in a straight line, is an experience like no other, especially if one's coming from ICE. The instant full torque is nearly impossible to match on ICE. We are talking sub-10sec 1/4 miles here. That is Bugatti Chiron territory in a fucking SUV form. |

Here is a question for everyone. If you had an unlimited budget to buy an SUV to use as a daily what would you buy? |
Lexus LX. its comfy as shit, its a barge, its indestructible, it can go through anything and everything. You can keep your rocket ship SUV, ill take mine and drive it to south america (pending shipping across darian's gap) for lawls. the backseat on the new LX is pretty epic https://s3.amazonaws.com/lexus.site....12192022052643 https://s3.amazonaws.com/lexus.site....12192022052643 |
Ditto. |
Naw man.... unlimited budget... I am taking the Rolls LOL, I dont give a shit about speed or handling... I will have a sports car for that... There is a Cullinan at my kids' elementary school (public), and I have to say... just the presence of that car... goddaaaammnnn, and then kids with muddy shoes and backpacks that has been sitting in the rain on the play ground just chucking on to the seats hahaha |
Typical shanghainese hahaha :ilied: |

I'd take a step down from the LX and get a Land Cruiser Heritage Edition. Almost just as nice instead but not as ostentatious. Then I'd run a Model X or S as the daily. https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/s...Edition-61.jpg |
I think the model x is starting to look dated, nothing about it screams $200k or however much they are now. I've seen quite a few Cullenins and they look nothing out of the ordinary either. I'll have a Bentayga if money's no issue. The curves just looks so fancy. Same with the Urus, just doesn't seem fancy enough, you need v12/w12 at that level. V8 just seems cheap. |
Actually if money is no object might as well go full China :awwyeah: https://i.gaw.to/content/photos/12/1...1.jpg?1024x640 |
^ Shit totally forgot about that... I guess you will just have to buy it and insure it in the USA and daily it here on a Montana Plate... can we get the 6x6 in Canada? |

Can you remotely heat or defrost it? I can turn on the heated seats or steering wheel from anywhere. I can also unlock the door by just walking up to it with my phone in my pockets. The app also tells me where the vehicle is at all times. |
