I think I’d buy it over the Tesla 3 though. I like the styling, I like the performance, I’m completely skeptical about the reliability & fit / finish but that’s the same with a Tesla. the smaller interior is kinda off putting. I should be off pudding. I’m too fat.
With a car that is as well-recognized and venerable as the Golf / GTI / R in the N.American market, I hope Volkswagen wouldn't be stupid enough to think 'Muricans OnLy WaNt SuVs.
Looks like a fiat Jeep. Sorry $160,000 for this. Lol.
Over 800HP electric so similar to an ice car with over 1000HP. that's a 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds. zero to 60 in 3.1 seconds. anything else with simular specs that can haul a 7 people?

^ Soon I can just let autopilot stage up at Mission, run the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds, collect my timeslip, give myself a pat on the back for a job well done, and autopilot my ass home lol.

I'm so excited for the day when I can finally receive a healthy dose of my life's joy from knowing how cheaply and efficiently I was able to drive to and from work.
And the SE model is absolutely going to be the unobtanium.
If I were a normal person in the market for a car today, that PP SE is gonna be my number #1 choice.
(Or I'll go for a base model TM3 if I insist on going EV.)
straight line acceleration is the most boring performance metric there is and then being up high in an SUV ruins that sensation anyways lol.
Speed is speed. I grew up reading Super street and it was all about the 1/4 mile. Where a modified car with 400 HP was considered a lot. Now you can go to a dealer and buy a car with over 800 HP. Growing up I would have never thought you could do that.
Also, there is nothing stopping someone from putting all that hardware into a sports/race car.
Based on the previews that I've read and watched, I have zero interest in VinFast's offering at the moment. But I suppose some of us might be interested in giving it a shot?

Actually, it's pretty much the ONLY performance metric one could enjoy in daily life. Last time I checked, there's no law governing how slow you should do 0-speed limit assuming there's nothing in the way. A car can lap Nurburgring in record time, but there aren't many roads you can legally push that level of performance to even get a taste of it in daily driving.
And with the battery pack sitting down the car, accelerating an ICE SUV vs. EV SUV are 2 completely different animals.
Wat. Have you never driven down a twisty road? Best case scenario you're at a dead stop pulling onto the highway, you can only enjoy WOT for a little over 3s. 3.5s and you're getting a ticket. 4s you're getting impounded. The rest of the time you can use it for a second or two max. Personal preference obviously but to me that's a boring vehicle. Especially because again, you're sitting up high in an SUV killing the experience anyways.
Guys used to get stunting tickets for accelerating too quickly, I haven't heard of it happening for a few years though.

I'd tend to disagree. The sensation of speed is what matters, the actual numbers not so much. You go 500+ mph in a 737 but I don't think anyone calls that exciting.

So like an Evija? But then it doesn't seat 7 people like you said lol.

Not sure where you live, but here in South Surrey we sure don't have a lot of twisty roads and certainly none that could put a similar smile on me like going to track day.
And seriously... where can you even find a decent fun and twisty public road here in YVR without risking getting a ticket when one comes out of the corner? 0-100 metric is stupid. Especially after every other manufacturer released their launch mode... but it's the only metric that can actually make a difference in daily driving when comparing 2 cars. We just don't design public roads to be like tracks.
Actually there is a law for crazy acceleration. They just put it under reckless driving or something. A reasonable person does not need to accelerate 0-50km/h in 2.1 seconds. I actually find it very dangerous for high powered EV, because of how silent they are. They can catch a person by surprise.
Thing is with a good handling car the speeds you need to go on those twisty roads to really get a thrill is going to be well above that road's speed limit anyways.
Kangaroo rd out in Metchosin is a fantastic road to scratch your twisties itch, lots of cambered corners too. But to really enjoy it you need to be doing 80,90,100 (not from experience or anything). The limit's 50...
