So hitler is back in the nuremburg to get his dome light/panel repaired. What is this the 7th time I took him back into Deutschland auto for warranty work?
Anyways I saw this excellent big ole van. Im a huge fan of these but a few things I've noticed.
1) its INSANELY large and tall. It genuinely has a higher floor than my wife RX. you need to step up into it and I'm 6'2. Not good for midgets.
2) the materials all look very nice, but not 100k nice. This "first edition" is going to be 100k after all said and done and its not there. Its more of a 50-60k car. When you touch it, its all hard plastics and low grade trash. If you don't touch it, its nice enough to look at.
3) that driver "screen" is tiny as hell. Almost an after thought / joke of a screen. Its ridiculous.
4) seats while comfortable, seem a bit harsh and overly stiff for no reason. Pull out thigh cushion is nice
5) HUGE space for everyone. You can have a 6'4 guy drive, have a 6'4 guy sit behind him, and another 6'4 in the third row and they all have enough knee/head/elbow room. This thing is a packaging / interior space master class.

My info might be out of date cuz the market shifts fast, but from my time working in product planning for a manufacturer whose alliance just fell apart:
- North Americans don't want cheap cars with compromises, which stuff like BYD Dolphin and cheaper are. No one bought shit like Ford Fiesta and no one will buy tiny cheap EVs.
- North Americans are deeply brand conscious compared to Europe/Asia. Don't think Chinese would sell well here.
- Most wouldn't pass North American crash test, except for Geely.
- Fast charging is a must for US market but Chinese LFP batts charge terrible esp in cold... unless it's the high end ones like Zeekr
- Even in Europe, Chinese EV way more expensive to own because the residuals/leasing/insurance is terrible.

4* thoughts:
1) I prefer Range Extended EV over a hybrid any day.
Drive a Sienna up a hill or around the city and the engine makes a huge racket, the power delivery is unpredictable, and the engine runs a ton more to keep heat going.
2) Haven't watched it but take Munros' comment as grain of salt - he has great perspective but generally from a North American perspective. Doesn't consider things like battery swap station, etc.
3) We're about to see some really funky suspension designs. With incredible weight and force in the EV, there's a tonof stuff going on compared to when I worked on rear subframe crash design for a Cadillac.
- how loads are/aren't trasnferred to the battery from suspension/body affect durability and crash result.
- if the battery deflect to much or gets torsion beyond its limit it goes kaboom
4) No matter how regulation changes, ICE sales continue to drop. Chinese now have EV and software building knowhow that western company just from shipping and iterating quickly.

7th time! Aren't you eligible to lemon law that thing and get your money back?

Its all just little itty bitty trim shit that's stupid.
It hasn't left me stranded yet... plus I'm totally stuck in this sunken cost fallacy where I've spent 120 dollars in aliexpress trash (wing, interior nick nacks , etc) and 300 dollars on this short throw kit + 105 dollar shift knob so now I'm keeping it forever.

oh ye i just got back from Paris, VW is so cooked.
All the Diesel VWs just disappeared, not much Chinese car yet cuz they still have money.
- Toyota/Lexus hybrids seemed to be 80% of the market within the city: Lexus ES, Corolla Cross/Estate Hybrid, and CH-R/Fusion Hybrid.
- Large EV cars like MB EQV, Scenic EV made up the rest since their nuclear electricity is cheap enough for the big ones but not cheap enough for the samll cars.
The one Golf EV (ID.3) I rode in was the biggest POS I've ever been in.
- It was literally falling apart: i commented on the massive clunk and driver said the rear axle was already fixed once but now the control arms had given up on life
- Fisher Price interior makes the Mk7 look like a Rolls Royce.
- Screens had the least sensical and less space efficient layout ever.
yah, it's Canadian. all of a sudden, my algorithms are making these pop up. It's obvious that Fiat is having a hard time moving these but if they are remotely reliable, what a find!
- $1340 down
- 24 month lease
- $2135 due at signing
- 12k km annual allowance
I vaguely seem to recall from a lease I had a long time ago that the signing cost already includes the 1st month of payment. So If my calculations are correct, the 2 year lease will roughly work out to:
$2135 + $35 x (48+52) = $5740
and then you add any wear & tear costs. So let's say a very generous $1500 for tires and anything else?

I think that's for clean air isn't it? You can't drive diesels in Paris anymore. And Badhobs golf R would have a tax of something like 50k Euro! My M2 would have 70k Euro of tax on it now.
