The Honda has a ridiculous price premium added to it. So for the 60k you pay on Honda Civic if you can even get one. You can get the RS3 and any of the other better performing cars for considerably less.
IMHO

IMO, between the Focus RS, Golf R, and Civic Type R, the only clear loser in performance situation is the Golf R.
I am not sure whether the ground is completely dry. If it isn't, the advantage tilt further towards the AWD offerings (FoRS and Golf R). But what happens is, the Golf R lost the quarter mile drag race to the CTR despite having AWD to propel it right off the line. Also, in the rolling start situation, the CTR also picked up its pace to catch up to, and pass the FoRS despite its FWD disadvantage.
So what I can see is -- the Golf R has the worst performance, but probably offers the most upscale ride between the 3 cars. The CTR packs the most performance, unless you are in a drag race situation, and the FoRS is somewhere in between.
At the same time, the Golf R will almost certainly be the most maintenance intensive one out of the 3, while the CTR is the most reliable.

Makes sense...the Civic R traps higher than both Focus RS and Golf R.
I can't stand the mentality here....the CTR...actually, all these hot hatches, their strong points were never just straight line speed, it is more meaningful to see how fast they go around a track and comparing those times is more appropriate of these beasts.

and yes.... track test has proven, the CTR is the fastest among the competition (STi, EVO X, Focus RS and Golf R)....
As for the RS3 and AMG... I am sure they are faster... but lets be real here... if you got the coin for those 2, you are not going to cross shop for the CTR and the rest... you will probably cross shop a used C63/M3... and worry abt warranty... or die-hard wanting the new car smell...

Suddenly everyone forgets that FRS was supposed to shine on the track not on a drag strip.

I think that's a poor example. I'm not saying the frs is bad, but it's not just a little underpowered, its way too underpowered. I know it's not all about power (I owned an NA Miata lol) but nowadays we can have the best of almost every world

If you want power, there is always a Nissan 370Z at the same price with Toyota 86.

It's kinda misleading though. You can get a base 370Z for $30k, but Nissan did take away a lot of stuff to make it that price. And you can't add anything to that base model. I'd imagine people who want to buy a 370Z would at least want LSD and 4-piston sport brakes. After all you probably don't want an open diff with close to 350hp. You will need to get the $34k version to get those.

That's because they're just window shopping and looking at the base price which gives you nothing. Anyone serious in getting a 370Z wouldn't skip out on all the "necessities" that would quickly drive the price up.

What's interesting is that you can't add any options to the 370z. And so the pricing is sort of weird:
Base: $30k
Sport: $34k
Touring: $44k
Nismo: $48k
That's a pretty big jump from Sport to Touring.....

That said, if you are open to mods, that base 370z is still a lot of car for the money. If you are mechanically inclined then adding a new diff, and upgrading brakes isn't that big a deal.

Wish I knew who you were as I would have said hi!. Looks like you were in the tower at T3. The CTR overheated as some of them are reportedly doing so now and the condom tires weren't the greatest idea from Honda either. Quote:
