One guy from the Accord forum said this:

Quote:

As a follow up to some earlier posts in this thread, I stopped by my local dealership today to look at their Civic Type R. What an experience! As shown in the photos below, they roped it off as if it were a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO. I asked the sales rep if he could open it so I could look at the inside, feel the seats, etc. He said “management won’t let me.” And in a kidding way he then asked, “Do you think you can handle it?” I exhaled slowly, smiled and said, “I think I’d be okay.”

But the dealership’s condescending attitude about this car was both comical and irritating. So I asked the sales rep, “What‘s the real deal? It’s a nice a car but not that special. This Pilot (I pointed to one in the showroom) costs $14,000 more. It’s not roped off. I don’t get this. I just want to sit in it, not drive it.” “Sorry sir, we can’t do it.”

I should have been smarter than to try to reason with him. Anyway, moving on, their mark-up was not horrible. The front seats seemed to be made of a soft velour and looked seriously comfortable! Very red….but very comfy. However the back seat seemed to be the same as a basic Civic....not good. And the tail end has such harsh angles. If the average person who buys a new car is over 50 years old, that is one risky design.

Despite the dealership, the R may still be a contender if the 2018 Accord Sport is to understated for my tastes.
Sounds pretty stupid to me. Come on, it's not a supercar...

Jmac 09-21-2017 10:28 PM

Reminds me of the last time I went to the Vancouver Auto Show several years ago and they had the FR-S and BRZ locked and wouldn't let anyone sit in them. Fucking lame.

IMO, for the CTR, I don't think it's the price that is making the dealerships acting weird. It's more to do with how rare it is at the moment. If the dealer were to charge a mark up, then the dealer probably wants to keep the car as new and pristine as possible. And as such, no one is allowed to touch the car. I mean if you are one of those people who have paid a mark up for the car, you probably don't want anyone touching the car before you.

I guess this is just the way things are when a car is rare. I'd imagine once there are more CTRs available, dealers won't be acting like this.

I recall buying my first car and asking if I can check out the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V and they wouldn't let me inside. I was like wtf and left. lol

Dragon-88 09-22-2017 09:49 AM

I went to Subaru hoping to try a WRX, and they said no.. Like WTF is up with dealerships, I'm not going to buy something I haven't test driven, let alone its not like i was asking to take the STI for a rip. I wasnt even interested in the STI which they should've clued in I was a interested buyer and not just some tire kicker.. But oh well, I even made an appointment.

I confirmed from my local honda rep it is the prize one. The dealer only sold 1 black one and it is not this one

Jmac 09-22-2017 04:20 PM

Lame

nsx042003 09-22-2017 04:49 PM

The prize always goes to the wrong person who does not appreciate it. o well, life is fucked up like that

twitchyzero 09-22-2017 04:56 PM

was my initial reaction
but then $50k is $50k...in that position of not wanting this car in the first place, I would've cashed out too
at least he did try to claim his "intent is to keep the car but willing to let it go if price is right"

I think some dealers do that. I was at Lougheed Acura and there's a brand new black NSX in the showroom with the sold sign. I know that car isn't sold for sure though as I got a quote from their sales rep that same week.

That's awsome ! In that case gives you wiggle room to negotiate off msrp

JDMACCORD 09-26-2017 08:42 AM

Harmony Honda kelowna has a white one in stock for sale. But will only sell to a local in that area. Best thing is they are asking msrp for new in stock 👍

TouringTeg 09-26-2017 01:40 PM

^ This must be it. Looks like they have another one on the way too

My gut is starting to tell me to wait till the fk8 cycle is finished before pulling the trigger. Would be nice to see all the variants coming up before plucking the fruit.
And Honda seems to go opposite and pushing more Manual gear boxes feels like there will be a chance for the fk8 R series to be produced in higher numbers.

My gut always tells me there will be some new special/limited edition that makes the early adopters regret not waiting and getting the new edition. Next one might get a phoenix yellow with red seats for a colour choice for an ITR throwback :ahwow::ahwow::ahwow::ahwow:

maybe 4 circular lights too for shits and giggles :fullofwin:

I have heard others say that the 2017MY will be rare as it ages because Honda will start increasing production of the FK8 so each year will see more and more; thus reducing the rarity. Similar to what happened with the 1997 ITR and why it is the most coveted model year in North America. A long term commitment for sure so perhaps not a factor if you're not looking to keep it forever.

I agree a long term commitment was what I was planning for. Just seeing how the Itr turned out really ended up kicking myself selling my 01 Itr. The fk8 Ctr is first time avail in North America and also still keeping the same pedigree from past Type R and Fwd and the fact that it smashed a record on the Nurburing helps. Was looking forward to daily it with the kids so the Fwd made more sense with weight and u turns and overal operation costs

only if it's got exclusive parts (97 bumpers) or if it's exclusive to a market (99 CDM,) or both (01 CDM)

I think buying it when the hype dies down next year or two and have the overheating kinks worked out is a better bet
