PK5500 Keypad

I was wondering if anyone on here has one of these keypads for their security system at home. According to the manual and many google results, the LCD keypad is suppose to display messages/prompts. For example, when looking for bypass zones, brightness control, time and date settings, and many other user commands.

However, none of the keypads on my home are displaying any of these messages.

Anyone have any clues on whats going on or how to get these prompts to display? The LCD screen is working properly as the time is showing. These prompts are suppose to be displayed where the time is showing.

Usually you have to enable/program that using the installer/master code i believe. I installed a Honeywell system that had a similar style of alpha numeric display. Had to enable/label the zones etc, manually. You may need the programming manual for your system too. Plus the installer code to access.

For example, as per the manual,
"The keypad will display "Press * for < > Zone Bypass"
"Use < > scroll keys to find the menu option and press * to select"

These menu options/display are not displayed on the screen at all. These messages need to be enabled/programmed?

You probably have the PK5501. The 5500 is a full alphanumeric keypad whereas the 5501 only displays numbers

I believe you are correct. My keypad only has numbers on it. But the LCD display should still display menu options no? I have no idea which option i am on. Whether it be time and date, brightness control, contrast control, buzzer level etc.

If its PK5501 then no it displays nothing other than a few numbers here and there. In order to program it u have to pay very very close attention to the numbers u press. If u screw up 1 press then ur fked cause u just changed another option. So read and reread the instructions a few times until u fully understand before programming it.

The bypassed zone is displayed when you press *2. Certain zone types can't be bypassed e.g. Fire zones for smoke detector etc

according to the manual, * 2 is to view system troubles.

it says * 1 to by pass zones. but i don't know how to view it. theres only clear bypass, bypass recall, save bypass, or recall save.

Sorry, that was a typo. Where are you getting these prompts from? (clear bypass, bypass recall etc.). Is that what's displayed on the keypad?
