Just picked up this winter beater so the E34 and CB7 can take a rest...

1978 Subaru DL (Aka Leone / Loyale) with 92,000 KM's. Larger 1.6L Boxer 4, Auto. Bought off of the 92 year old original owner whose estate was being handled by her Sons. (Passed away in July).

Absolutely loving it. Needs larger/wider Subaru Brat or Loyale wheels, and a fluid flush.

On the Dyno at RG for a re-tune. Results were a little disappointing. Oh well drive this engine into the ground and build a new one later.

Why is this getting relegated to winter beater status :heckno:

Is it immune to rust?

SpeedStars 09-12-2016 01:13 PM

I was gonna say switch the cb7 to beater status but then all of his cars are so minty :concentrate:

I feel almost bad.. I'm sealing off what I can with Waxoyl. This car has corrosion in the most common places you'd find on 70's BC cars. However, it is much better than other BC cars in this era. No rust holes or anything. It was not a good feeling driving the rust free E34 and accord through our acid - treated roads in the winter. Literally left my hose out in the driveway throughout the winter so I could wash off what I could.

Interior + Mechanicals are mint though :bigthumb:

I'll be taking care of this little guy. Winter "beater" is a harsh term. I'm going to Kwantlen surrey and back from Coquitlam... and to work Lmao.

edit: Anyone have old school CIBIE foglights and where can I get those rally mud flaps I see on vape enthusiast / impreza owners

thumper 09-12-2016 03:38 PM

no cibie lights, i but i have a set of hella 500's from my dad's old forester that might work for you...

i've never been in an automatic one before. not sure if it makes a difference though. parts are scarce for those, otherwise i would hunt for the non-DOT bumpers. and i'm worried about rust as well. at least it's painted in the right color should that become a big issue.

on a side note i stumbled across this looking for pics of leones... it's long gone now but the possibilities:

Just went to lordco and got all the routine maintenance stuff no problem :victory:

If you mean exterior / interior stuffs, yeah I'm sure I'll be seeing that category of parts fetching a premium if and when they show up - like most Japanese state-side 70's cars.

I have no idea, I lost total control of my finances sometime around spring 2013, everything since that time has been a blur.

Went mattress shopping lol. Also this is the cleanest the truck has been in a while. I even vacuumed the interior and washed the bed out!
