Porsche New 718 Cayman/Boxster (Turbo 4 Cylinder) What do you guys think of a Turbo 4 cylinders Porsche? Quote:

Pretty big changes for a "mid-cycle" makeover. - going from a NA 6 cylinders to a 2L/2.5L 4 cylinder turbo. (about 10% increase in HP) - New LED headlights/taillights and new front & rear bumper. - Articles said some upgrades to the interior but I couldn't see any difference beside the option for a GT Steering wheel. - Bigger brakes - My sales rep said they should have Apple Carplay on the new model (which is something I really want since you don't have to fork out 5K for porsche's own infotainment/navigation package, which probably won't work as well an iphone) The turbo 4 cylinder changes seem to get a lot of hate and skepticism tho... |
It won't sound the same :( |

I'm just hoping the price of used caymans to drop instead of increase when this is released.:) |
4 cylinder boxer turbo? Wonder what would happen if you slapped on a UEL header.... :megusta: but then again Subaru would probably be insulted. |

E90 328 sound > F30 328 sound Cayman flat 6 will always sound better than a 4 banger turbo. Imo |
Man, Porsche designers are very........... Lazy? Look at the difference between the last fen corolla and the new one. Huge change! Then compare the last gen of, well, any Porsche to the current one. But that's just my opinion... |
Have to say I like a lot of things Porsche has been doing but these 4 small lights in the corners of the headlight housing...I dunno, not my thing. Looks out of place. |

They deliberately keep the Porsche "look" to appeal to purists and define their brand. I don't think there is any laziness behind it. |
I fully understand the ridiculous nature of my comparison. But as I lay in bed it's the best I could come up with. Why not compare it to corvettes then. Each c4/5/6/7 retain a similar shape, yet feel very different to each other. Guess I just don't 'understand the brand' for Porsche |
Since the cayman was released its had some major changes done. They dont really need to do full refreshes like corollas/civics of the world because they dont really need to sell the car every few years. Its gonna sell without a refresh or not. |

Corolla and economy boxes just scrap everything that was done before and just start with a blank slate and take design cues from everywhere else without ever having to consider what looks they have to maintain to preserve its DNA: Cheap appeal to the masses. Econo-boxes simply got bigger to accommodate more safety shit and growing bodies so that they can go with industry standards. Then they had to add sub-economy boxes in like the Yaris to make the Corolla higher class. It takes much more thought into designing a new Porsche to have brand recognition. When someone is paying that coin for a Porsche, no one better confuse it with a Kia. Even the WRX STi, in my opinion looks like a freakin' civic from the side. http://assets.clickmotive.com/ail/co...01_M7Y.jpg?t=0 http://media.ed.edmunds-media.com/ho..._oem_1_600.jpg Bottom line: When people look at a Porsche they're likely to not have to question what it is. Shiny? Porsche profile? Very familiar but something looks different? Probably a new Porsche. When someone looks at a new Corolla: Is that a Camry? Or a Hyundai? |

I completely understand where you're coming from, but myself and I'm sure a lot of other people too would be completely devastated if they revamped the classic Porsche design like Honda revamped the S2000 or Toyota revamped the Corolla. |

Having recently hooned around in my cousin's 6cyl base Cayman, I can fully attest to how amazing these cars are in every single way, particularly that motor. Not sure if any turbo 4 will ever have the same feel or sound as a pure NA. |
In this case, will it sound like a STi? |
ew, didn't know they were about to announce a new cayman/boxster NA V6>>>>>>>turbo 4cyl |
Im guessing the engine is probably going to be some what like the set up in the Golf R. Makes sense. |

While I agree when you see a Porsche, you immediately know it's a Porsche, differentiating between models is another challenge unless you know your Porsches. But there are always worse brands in this regard, such as Aston Martin. I would be totally lost if I can't spot the badge in the back. |
Is it still a boxer engine? Going to an inline would be harder to take than dropping 2 cylinders. |
stop complaining about 4 cylinder Mazda Miata, Honda S2000, Lotus Exige, Ginetta G12, etc...they all had 4 cylinders. Also 4 cylinder Porsche is nothing new Porsche 550 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...550_Spyder.jpg Porsche 924 http://www.artandrevs.com/_img/galerie_prods/39_629.jpg Porsche 356 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._Cabriolet.jpg Porsche 944 http://porsche-scene.de/uploads/pics..._klasse05_.jpg Porshce 64 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/carMTrqqbtY/maxresdefault.jpg Porsche 968 http://www.moibbk.com/images/porsche-968.jpg Porsche 912 http://pinthiscars.com/preview/porsc...allpaper-7.jpg Porsche 914 http://pcbunn.cacr.caltech.edu/jjb/P.../overright.jpg |
Timpo wow, I'm so proud. You finally figured out how to put all pictures in one post instead of posting one picture per post. |
