Recommendation for a vacuum cleaner

Not sure if this is the right subsection to post this. Mods please move if it isn't.

I'm looking for a good quality vacuum cleaner for my home, all carpet. I prefer a canister than an upright. Also not sure bagless or with bag is better, some pros and cons to both I guess. Suction power is important, but many of them in the stores don't show the airflow or sealed suction, and I hear that watts and amps don't really tell how powerful it is. I do have a $200 credit at Sears so I'm hoping to use that towards the vacuum cleaner.

I got a Dyson canister vacuum. Love it. I've been through many vacuum's before it and finally just said screw it and invested in one. It was a good choice.

I have a Miele and it's been really good. My dog sheds lots of fur on the carpet, and it has no problem picking it all back up. Just my experience.

prefer canister over bag, so much easier to clean/empty. square footage of your home IMO is important too in your decision. amps IMO will determine motor size which would determine performance, at least if you're looking at the same brand/model family.

Another vote for Dyson.

I have a canister from a few years ago; only complaint is that the hose isn't long enough so I have to stoop a bit when vacuuming the floor. I'm 6'1".

Also a Dyson owner and would recommend it. If you prefer something quiet though, Miele is pretty good from what I've read. Might cost you in the long term though as they require special bags.

https://www.lowes.ca/canister-vacuum..._g1578294.html

I currently have this one, bought it for $170 taxes in.

It does a decent job for apartments, but for a single detached home with lots of carpet, I would recommend something else as the one I have does NOT have a beater bar for the carpet.

I've noticed the commercial cleaners at my work using this for the last few years..

HooverŪ Air? Steerable Upright Vacuum | Canadian Tire

I quite often see it go on sale for $100 off, if that's more in your budget.

Cheers!

Also bear in mind what kind of floors you have at home, long pile, short pile, hardwood floor etc.

It will help you narrow down the model you need based on the brushhead it comes with, unless you are willing to add extra to buy additional brushheads.

commercial vacuums will wear out your carpet much faster than home versions

my vote also goes to dyson. i used to wonder why people pay so much money for a damn vaccum cleaner until i borrowed an old one because the hoover i had broke for the last time. i waited until the boxing day sale bed bath and beyond had after last xmas and picked one up and i'm so happy to have it... i'm motivated to clean when i am well known for not cleaning lol

my dyson is lasting like 7+ years and is working perfectly...

fuck bags, those shit are PITA to work with. Dyson has a cannister where u can eject everything out with a button and its done in 5 seconds

I love my Miele canister, but decided to install a built in vac since house was already pre-wired. No noise, of course, as the unit is in the garage. I plan to hook it up so I have it working in the garage as well. It can be bag or bagless, but will most likely use the bag.

I also just got a Dyson V6 cordless mattress handheld. Not sure what to think of it yet.

IMO (fail me all you want) Dyson is overrated/overpriced. Bags are easier to clean up and with current tech and cleaner air from the exhaust

I live in a dt and apt and bought this. Best damn vac for about $100.00
http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-Mighty-.../dp/B00002N8CX

Had it for about a couple of years. Kinda scary how strong the suction is.

Only downside is it gets kinda warm.

Bagless is great if you have a pet that sheds a lot. I also like bagless because I can see how much dirt is picked up every time I vacuum.

Dyson uprights are great for carpet.

The Dyson canister vacuums are good for hard floors and stairs. The turbine power head isn't quite powerful enough for carpet though.

IMO, I would go with the older style w/ filters vs cinetic filterless. They're cheaper and have a proven track record. The cinetic series are still too new. You can find lots of complaints about the cinetic vacuums.
