Hiding cable box

I just mounted the tv, and instead of leaving the Telus cable box/PVR out, I'd like to stick it inside the tv cabinet with a closed door so the living room has a clean look. However, if I put it in the cabinet, the cable box remote no longer works.

What are my options? I've heard IR repeaters/extenders? Which one would work with my telus box? Any other alternatives?

I have seen people mount the box to the backside of the TV before. If you have enough room you could do that. Thats how mine is and no issues with the remote. Keeps it from being seen and still works just fine.

Is there a provision for remote IR on the back of the box?

I don't know what Telus uses but all my Motorola and Arris boxes have them and I think the former even came with the sensors, just in case.

Some cable boxes come with/can use a remote IR sensor, it should just look like a plastic block with a 3.5mm plug at the end of the cord. There's another low tech option that sends the IR down a fiber optic cable to a piece you stick on the IR receiver on the box, but I don't know what they're called.

One thing to check though is that your cable box will get sufficient airflow with the door closed, check the owners manual and make sure it doesn't get too much hotter than normal while using it.
