You talk about fun factor and that a E92 M3 is not fun because it is heavy as fuck but you reco a F10 M5 or X5M for a DD? those boats make a E92 M3 feel like mini....haha!

I'm currently shopping for a E9X M3... last of a breed and the only one with that dirt nasty V8.
It's a lot of fun. The V8 makes the drive so worthy. It's quite heavy as others have stated. I love E46's (used to have one before too) but would still choose the E9x. Is it super fast? No. Is it fun and make you want to drive like a douche bag? Oh fuck yeah. The exhaust tone is intoxicating.
Gas consumption is a bitch in this thing. To the point I might get another vehicle as a daily. Do a lot of research. Throttle actuators are a common issue which are $1800/ea (there's 2), and rear tires tend to wear pretty quickly for obvious reasons, and if you're buying a 6spd. Make sure to get a 2009+ otherwise you HAVE to buy new flywheel which is $2400 plus the clutch plus the labour.
By no means a low maintenance vehicle nor a super cheap vehicle to own in general. Be prepared for $2k-5k maintenance/repair bills when something does need to be done.
No M3 will ever be perfect, but if you told me I can only have one of them for the rest of my life to do everything with, I am pretty sure I'd choose the E92 all over again. I've driven the E46, E92, F80 and recently spent considerable amount of time in the F80.
Can't help but crack up when I jump back in the E92 after the F80 and bang that 8600rpm red line...
Heavy? a bit (actually my car has zero option except DCT, and full titanium exhaust which saves another 50lbs, it feels pretty close to our F80 in terms of weight. Its the chassis stiffness that sets it apart for me)
Comfy? for sure
Fast? fast enough
Any GT3 is a better driver tool than an M3 i'll give you that, but a better daily? Nope, and none of the newer M cars give me the same buzz as well. Driven them all except the M2, hugely fast and very efficient but missing something for me.
Actually, I'd take another NSX over a 911 even if its a GT3... I realize as long as you are alive and have money you can always pick up a GT3/911. Porsche will always make them for as long as they are in business. But NSX? that thing is special, as someone put it brilliantly: if its good enough for Ayrton Senna, its good enough for me and shall I add: if its good enough for the designer of McLaren F1, its good enough for me too
Back on topic, not very excited about the M4GTS in the same way I am not very attached to our F80...

The E46 m3 or even S2k is way more fun to toss around the street than e92 m3. Having driven the 997.2 gt3 rs for a few hours and i can tell you non of the m cars are close to its performance and pure fun factor.
But if you want a comfortable car go for the e92 m3. But personally i will take the f10 M5 or the new x5m if u want a luxury comfortable fast car.
I used to think absolute weight in a car was the same for any car, if it weighed allot, it woundn't handle or change direction well. But from my experience my previous 2008 E60 M5 and my current E93 M3 both weight approx. 4000lbs. However they both handle and feel completely differently. The E60 M5 was just a big boat with too much weight on the front end which made it push and understeer like a pig. In a turn, you had to hold your line and not make many steering adjustments or it would wallow big time. You had to really steer with your right foot, or it would just plow. However, the E93 M3 actually feels nimble and light when changing direction (I am speaking relative to the E60 M5). It doesn't plow or understeer much (unless I screw up my turn in) and is really agile especially when applying the throttle. I really think the shorter wheelbase and engine placed further back from the front axle makes a huge difference in handling.

how much of a weight savings is there over the standard m4 door panel i dunno...
