Super Noob Insurance Question

The wife wants to go riding. Does my bike insurance work like car insurance where she can take my bike out and is covered?

call your insurance provider, they can provide the most accurate information.

ICBC -- likely no problem.

Private -- they may have a minimum time period for which you've held a Class 6 license. BCAA is one year for example.

Yes it's fine, as long as she is not the principal operator.

On my insurance it's clearly marked on the paper saying "principal operator is the registered owner". That doesn't mean no one else can ride it, but it DOES mean that she cannot be the daily rider of the bike

Car, bike, same same

If through ICBC, should not be a problem as long as she is licensed and you have given consent for her to operate the bike. You might want to bump up your liability coverage though if not at max already.

If Private, you might have to contact the underwriters to confirm. Each private insurer is different.

Thanks for the info. It's under icbc and I'm principle driver. I didn't want to insure her bike until summer comes along but she has the itch to ride right now haha

That's a good itch to have! Is your bike insured all year?

Sorry, super late response, but I am insured year round. During the winter months, when the suns out, I try to get out for a stress reliever ride. Wife is only insured during the nice months
