I got my first supersport! 07 R6 Just picked this thing up today: http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n.../image1max.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n.../image2max.jpg This thing is intuitive as hell! It's been really predictable so far, and I like that there's a huge lack of power below 9k rpm so that it's manageable in daily riding. Previous to this I had an '01 YZF-600R which was an entirely different bike. I'm going to have to slowly work my way up to the 16.5k redline lol. |
Congrats! It looks like it is in fantastic shape. Be safe out there. :) |
nice R6. the "exhaust" looks loud |

It doesn't actually seem very loud. The only thing I really notice is the burbling under deceleration :p |
Best supersport out there (IMO). I've had a number for R6's over the years and there awesome bikes. Watch out for the cagers. |
How's ownership of the R6 so far? |
Man it's been great. On every metric that matters to me, it's met or exceeded my expectations. The shifting is quick (the revs rise and drop really fast), the steering feels super direct, and the bike accelerates and decelerates with seemingly no effort at all. But most of all, it makes a beautiful noise. If I had nothing but the sound of its redline, I'd be completely satisfied. Quibbles: I kind of wish it had a gear position indicator. And I'm not a fan of how the low-beam works. Only one headlight comes on - it looks like it's got one side burnt out! Range isn't super great either: on a 17 L tank I get something like 200 kms. And I guess the low-end torque isn't really inspiring - it's really apparent when trying to get moving from a standstill. Problems: I initially heard a random chirping sound (almost like an alarm siren) from my bike at random intervals in the first month. I heard it maybe once every 15 minutes or so. Only on throttle, and seemingly more often at lower revs (like 3-5k), on hilly terrain. But it's become really infrequent ever since I had the chain re-lubed and tension checked. Still happening but it's like once over a 2 hour ride. Mods: The bike came with a Jardine GP1 exhaust, Galfer steel-braided brake lines, and super bright LED side markers / indicators. I installed LED tail lights that pre-flash before going solid, and I'm pretty happy with them: Anyway it's been an awesome ownership experience. I have a lot to learn, but every weekend I'm making progress and it's been really rewarding. |
I'm loving that LED tail light. If i didn't already have one (Clegg's Inovations) i'd grab that for sure, the quick flash before going solid is a great eye catcher under braking. |

I've been doing cornering school out at Stockton 99 Speedway (kart track) out in the Bay Area and at the end of these classes they hold open lapping. Footage from last Saturday: Just need to work up the courage now to go to out to the big tracks :) |
