It isn't logical. That's what makes it so scary. Violence is nothing to those that feel that this course of action is necessary. Whether brainwashed or just plain pissed off, they're crazy people doing crazy things.

It seems like everything that has been done to combat these threats is like bringing a fucking limp cucumber to a rocket launcher fight. Does the rest of the developed world stoop to their levels of violence to win? Eliminate even the innocent to end the threat? Does that solve the problem? That's the ongoing question.

Education was seen as the most effective tool in combating birth rates, infant mortality, hunger, poverty, etc in Africa. No point throwing money and supplies at an ever growing problem. Give them an education and they will have the tools to sort it out on their own. Perhaps a similar strategy is needed to combat religion. How that would come about, I have no idea. But they have to do this on their own. Violence becomes an endless cycle.

I still get confused when it comes to the huns and mongols. They were seperated by a millennia, but both were so brutal and had such an impact on history that it's easy to confuse the two factions.

An interesting note that pertains to this thread, is that both the Huns and the Mongols were incredibly barbaric and had a violent rise to power. Again, the way to rule was with an iron fist. Both groups did that very well, and owned enough land to prove their might.

Education, and humanity is the only way to fight a (flawed and violent) ideology. Closing them off from our world, threatening them, hating them does nothing. Bombing does more harm than good, because it reaffirms their belief that Western mentality is violent and hateful towards them. You can't bomb a belief.

When you're born in decrepit squalor in the middle of nowhere, trapped between conflicts all around you and your parents just might be related, you really have no purpose in life.

The point of education is to not only teach and guide people through life but to also help them make choices in their lives. That is not so prevalent in a developing country. So chances are, you're molded and shaped what to believe from the moment you're born. If you have even less grasp of education, chances are a 'wise old cleric' will come along and shape you even further. He'll fill your head with HIS vision and convince you that it is yours. Before you know it, you're chanting death shouts to people you've never met while you fulfill a goal that was implanted in you.

Call me ultra Liberal if you want, but I feel bad for these people. Why? Because they're treated as souless disposable bodies by the militias and the financiers.
