It isn't logical. That's what makes it so scary. Violence is nothing to those that feel that this course of action is necessary. Whether brainwashed or just plain pissed off, they're crazy people doing crazy things.
It seems like everything that has been done to combat these threats is like bringing a fucking limp cucumber to a rocket launcher fight. Does the rest of the developed world stoop to their levels of violence to win? Eliminate even the innocent to end the threat? Does that solve the problem? That's the ongoing question.
Education was seen as the most effective tool in combating birth rates, infant mortality, hunger, poverty, etc in Africa. No point throwing money and supplies at an ever growing problem. Give them an education and they will have the tools to sort it out on their own. Perhaps a similar strategy is needed to combat religion. How that would come about, I have no idea. But they have to do this on their own. Violence becomes an endless cycle.

Yep. If we bomb these monkeys in retaliation, the brainwashed monkeys who did this will be seen as matyr and they can recruit more monkeys to do the same thing again.
Violence is not the answer, I mean how long it took to allegedly take down Bin Laden. I would love to drop a few nukes on top of the monkey kingdom or go Seal Team Six on their ass if it would solve all our problems but it wouldn't.

I still get confused when it comes to the huns and mongols. They were seperated by a millennia, but both were so brutal and had such an impact on history that it's easy to confuse the two factions.
An interesting note that pertains to this thread, is that both the Huns and the Mongols were incredibly barbaric and had a violent rise to power. Again, the way to rule was with an iron fist. Both groups did that very well, and owned enough land to prove their might.

It's a lack of education, and no other options that drive these people to do what they do. I swear, if our military dropped ipods filled with porn and Seth Rogan comedies, it would do more good than if we dropped bombs. Give these fuckers something to live for, so they know that life is more than religion, and hoping for a better afterlife.
Someone needs to teach these folks that when you die there is no heaven, there are no virgins, and you just gave your life fighting for a cause that is completely pointless.

Education, and humanity is the only way to fight a (flawed and violent) ideology. Closing them off from our world, threatening them, hating them does nothing. Bombing does more harm than good, because it reaffirms their belief that Western mentality is violent and hateful towards them. You can't bomb a belief.
Regardless, to believe this is a belief shared by MOST or even a large quantity of muslims is ridiculous.
The Syrian refugees my Mother in law invited over for dinner were certainly no different than any of us. They wanted the same positive human interaction that any person thrives on.

When you're born in decrepit squalor in the middle of nowhere, trapped between conflicts all around you and your parents just might be related, you really have no purpose in life.
The point of education is to not only teach and guide people through life but to also help them make choices in their lives. That is not so prevalent in a developing country. So chances are, you're molded and shaped what to believe from the moment you're born. If you have even less grasp of education, chances are a 'wise old cleric' will come along and shape you even further. He'll fill your head with HIS vision and convince you that it is yours. Before you know it, you're chanting death shouts to people you've never met while you fulfill a goal that was implanted in you.
Call me ultra Liberal if you want, but I feel bad for these people. Why? Because they're treated as souless disposable bodies by the militias and the financiers. It's like a street gang who sends low level associates knowingly to their death to ease tension or a huge institution like the US Army who grooms poor street kids into ultra patriots, only to have them die in pointless wars.
Since the dawn of civilization, the rich and powerful minority has had full control over the poor majority. This takes the form of many guises and will follow us till we literally destroy each other.
like a buncha people in a boardroom arguing over shit, eventually one side loses or they both realise they're tired and shake hands and combine forces.
but you don't get tired until you run low on resources or a buncha people die. that's how it is. that's how it will always be.
conflict is seen in every facet of existence at every level micro to macro.
it is the only way things move forward.
how do you know what's right/better without thoroughly physically pitting them against each other? (theory only goes so far, you still have to test it).
after all, survivability is always the primary prerogative of all advancement.
humans are expendable. to think otherwise is insanity. everything is expendable.
existence doesn't care. it solved that problem long ago. nothing is really lost, everything just goes back to where it came from and will reappear somewhere else later on.
zero sum game bros. it only matters at a primitive individual ego filled level.
instead of crying about how sad this is, just realise nothing has changed since ever. and that we learn the MOST through these conflicts. it's a learning process. there's tons of shit we're learning and applying just through these events. and through these events we thrive.
your feelings don't matter in the grand scale of things.
that being said, it's really obvious since tens of thousands of years ago till now, we've learnt how to go from using a rocks, to a broadsword, to carpet bombing, to nukes and now to a precision scalpel.
we have all of our history's abilities, yet we're finely dissecting our enemies, carefully only taking out small cells here and there.
no different than medical advancement. back in the day they'd prob just amputate a whole section of your body to stop something, now we're like precision targetting unwanted cells and shit.
it's making us more precise. more efficient.
war is a huge resource hog. imagine if we could have wars that didn't use any resources. we'd be gods.
