...would you classify this as a driving deathtrap?!...as in an exploding fragmentation grenade full of shrapnel.

affected ACURA vehicles:

RDX
2007-2015

TL

Same as the Takata airbag recall although a different issue itself. I had my recall done locally with no issues. Thought it would have been different since the Evo IX was not sold in Canada originally but New Type did it no problem.

News flash: you have all been driving death traps the whole time. You're just hearing about it now. It's how recalls work.

Lougheed Acura told the wifey that replacement parts for our car in this recall are on backorder. No idea when they'd be in.

Don't like driving a "deathtrap"? Go talk to Acura Canada about it.
I talked to Honda Canada about it, and they put me in another car while I wait for parts.

This airbag recall has been in Canada for years already, Honda/Acura keeps expanding the recalling to include more cars.
I have friends who have already had their recall done on 6th gen accord, 7th gen civic. Just the other day I saw a recall letter for the 2nd gen EL saying parts are available for it.

last year when they did this recall for my sister's EM2 in the US, Honda found out the car had the airbags tampered/hack job by a previous owner...she had to sign a waiver to get the car back.

goes to show carfax doesn't always work.

^just got letter. Every time I see the word Takata, I picture the ad with the brunette wearing green seatbelt that is way too wide for the situation.

Yep, all 2005-2014 mustangs recalled as well. This gave me reason to finally swap out the fat American steering wheel for a racing wheel. Much, much better

If you recently got the notice (in the last few months), parts are not available. No official ETA but Honda Canada says some time in the summer/fall.

If an airbag from a wrecker is currently installed in the vehicle or it has been tampered with in any way, recall cannot be done. You'll have to buy the entire airbag itself if you want to have the updated part. If you decline to replace it then you'll have to sign a waiver that you declined repairs.

I just got my letter today

2011 Fit

Wasn't all that impressed when they go into detail on how serious the issue is (potentially) then in the next paragraph, tell you they expect the replacement parts to be in 'sometime late 2016'

Needless to say my wife is less than happy, but seeing as she doesn't drive it very often, I shouldn't hear too much nagging about it lol

Honestly, I'm not that worried about it, but for some people who are genuinely worried... it's not like Honda is going to give you a loaner car until late 2016...
