A new picture published by AutoVisie this week shows what’s allegedly a brand new 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS face-down in an Amsterdam canal. Hope the auto insurance covers flooding. The car has an MSRP of about $175,000.

The owner of the dealership, Hans van der Valk, told AutoVisie that it was a mistake made by a mechanic. It’s unclear how that mistake happened – maybe the car was left in neutral and rolled forward, but there’s “very little damage.” It looks like a truck could easily lift the 911 right out of the river. With a nice soapy sponge, some body work and a bit of wax, my guess is this thing will be looking good as new again.

Just don’t check the Carfax.

Sinking feeling: The moment a £200,000 limited edition Porsche plunges into canal

AR lovers close your eyes because this is the moment a £200,000 supercar went from 0 to very wet in just four seconds.

The top-of-the-range Porsche 911 GT3 RS had just been prepared for its new owner when a garage mechanic put his foot down a little too hard.

With a 500bhp engine it's capable of 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds and boasts a top speed of 193mph.

A pick-up truck hauled the Porsche out of the water

But this one will not be going anywhere fast after its plunge into the drink.

A passerby snapped the moment it hung in the balance half-off the river bank and posted it to Twitter.

It took around two hours to retrieve on Wednesday morning, according to local media.

Photos of the accident have quickly gone viral

Hans van der Valk, manager at the Amsterdam dealership, told local press: "The car was parked on the waterfront and a mechanic made a mistake when trying to get the vehicle.

"That is very unfortunate, but it can happen.

"When there are people, mistakes are made."

Only 30!? I'd be paying a lot more than that as-is for that

That's how they're getting it out? RIP to the underside.

thumper 04-01-2016 10:50 AM

it sucks they can't use a rotator or a cherry picker because of the building's low overhang, unless they drive a wrecker straight into the water :(

Because water-cooled.
The car was being moved out of the showroom onto the sidewalk display by a tech that was not informed that the brake callipers had been removed to paint with the gulf livery at request of the owner before he picked it up apparently. Could you imagine being in a 200k car and putting your foot to the floor on the brake pedal and nothing happening as you approached the canal. Fuck me.

Someone needs to write a thank you letter to the designer of the HANS device.

I'd be running for the nearest border, you could be in Germany within the hour.

Really though, whoever removed the calipers but put the wheels back on is the knob I'd be blaming for this.
