lawn care

Has anyone use any lawn care services? My front yard is in horrible shape with lots of bare patches, bad soil and uneven ground. Last spring I tried seeding but it didn't work out very well. If it doesn't cost that much, I would probably pay instead of getting back pains and still not being able to grow grass. I tried doing reading reviews on some local companies but I would rather hear from first hand experiences.

Parents just got afew quotes for redoing their lawn.

Front yard is about 50x30' and they are:
-pulling up all grass
-digging down 6-8" to remove weeds/roots of grass
-placing new sand
-placing new topsoil
-placing new sod

$2300 total.

Back yard area is smaller about 20x20' and getting:
-moss removal
-seeding
-fertilization

$750 total.

Can update in afew weeks as they are coming sometime next week to start the work.

just get a synthetic lawn,
high cost up front but the new stuff looks really good.
no more cutting, watering, fertilizing, looks nice all summer and winter, its really resilient, and I bet the cost over 5 years is about the same as traditional grass.

If you don't mind me asking, what company did you go with for the quote?

I've heard that lawn renovation can cost up to $10k (digging and everything), that's why I just didn't bother.

My front lawn and back lawn been destroyed by chafer beetles, and on top of that, I don't think there is enough top soil, so grass growth has been crappy.

I own a landscaping company (in Kelowna, not 604 tho).

Re/Re a lawn is about $1.50-$2 per square foot. (bigger lawns costs less per sqft)

I would like to know what company too. I have a smaller yard than yours and the company quoted me $3k.

I just redid the lawn last summer for both my house and my grandma's.

It took about a week to complete but it was totally worth it with the fresh grass and everything turning out amazing!

Had to buy dirt, drop dirt, level it out, aerate, reseed, and water.

Just wondering why use sand? Isnt it terrible for holding any moisture and would dry out the grass faster in the summer?

I'm no expert on the subject, but I believe the reason for sand after aeration is that it plugs up all the holes, allowing water to penetrate deeper into the soil, ultimately leading to stronger roots. Filtration/drainage is a huge factor. All 3 yards surrounding our house look like shit but it totals over 5000 sq ft, not giving me much motivation to take care of it lols
