To clarify, the idea is to ride within the limits of each particular group. There are huge differences between riding inside the city with a lot of newer riders, the mild high speed stuff, the medium-high speed stuff and the unadvertised hooligan runs.

This particular group happens to be more about hanging out with motorcycles + amazing food and meeting new friends.

I've been around RS for quite a long time... and trust me, it has its fair share of arrogant D-bags. just not in this particular circle. Most of the people I usually ride with are pretty knowledgeable, respectful, and skilled. I wouldn't advocate joining up with a bunch of random hoologans

?NR 07-11-2016 05:28 PM

Karl and Ivanna, I'm thankful you take the time out of your busy lives and host these meets.

I'm old. I just wanna hang out, have something to drink, chat, perhaps go on leisure rides from time to time. If the meet fits the bill, I'll be there.

this forum is different from other forums on RS. It was meant to be different anyways.
bike crowd is different from car crowd, but from time to time the lines get blurred.

no drama, come and go as you please.

Being old is is half my problem... embittered and a little jaded at times. But I have to say, among the other people I ride with, it feels more like family than just a social group. We ride, we hang out more often than not, and we look out for each other. I suppose I was expecting too much, but I don't want to come across as ungrateful either. And besides, nothing builds up skill and confidence, than just getting out there. You'd be amazed at how fast you progress when grouping up with people at higher skill levels, otherwise you kinda stagnate. I realize that's not everyone's cup of tea, but that's just my advice.

No point getting worked up over stuff that really doesn't matter nor has any actual effect over your life. This particular meet isn't about fast riding. If you're looking for that kind of stuff there are tons of groups out there that do provide exactly that. It's not fun for anyone to hear non-stop complaints over this and that. Let's keep it on topic. And thanks to K4rl + Ivanna x a million for hosting these meets.

bananana 07-12-2016 01:59 PM

Also, to add. This meet is super noob friendly so any and all skill levels are super welcome. We've been getting a ton of lurkers and randoms which is always awesome. We do have significantly faster/more demanding rides that a few of us here do host -- but come to these, chat bikes, get advice on riding, enjoy the discounted food and such. If you're looking for rides to join along on this is one of the great places to start.

That was a little uncalled for... way to pick on someone for trying to make up for his misconception,. And no where did I even mention riding fast, try actually reading my post before you comment on them perhaps?. Clearly I'm already active in other groups, and was only expressing an interest in riding with people outside the usual circles.

JayEch 07-12-2016 05:05 PM

Damm. Cant make it tonight. Have fun guys and thanks a bunch for hosting this. We all appreciated it (Its the green ninja from the last meet btw, if ya remember).

All good. Always next week

?NR 07-12-2016 06:09 PM

I'm here just having a bbt and hanging. Whoever comes, all good. Whoever can't make it, all good.

Raid3n 07-13-2016 12:17 AM

parts for my bike are in, i should be able to join up next week!

604STIG 07-13-2016 09:08 AM

I'd be down to come out and meet new people if I can get my bike back on the road this season. But i'm really surprised at the amount of backlash from someones suggestion about going for a ride? Some of you guys make it sound like he suggested shooting a baby, relax guys. If this meet isn't about going on a ride rather just meeting up and hanging out then great, but probably don't need things to get so blown.

I haven't come out to any of the bike meets yet but i'm glad that they are happening and that someone has taken the initiative to put it together, so thanks for that. Hopefully i'll get to meet some of you guys at a meet at some point.

We probably should organize a group ride. I'd like to take my brother out who is a newer rider. There were a bunch last year but IIRC there's only been one so far this year (I didn't go). Anyways, looks at ?NR.

Dragon-88 07-13-2016 02:16 PM

You guys typically ride hwy much? I sold the SM610, so I only gots the Grom and well it tops at 100kph since I geared down a tooth on my front sprocket.. So hwy rides are probably a no go for me.

Bananana - I agree completely and totally. My experience with the RS group is they are super polite, super friendly, super inclusive ... maybe the focus isn't strictly on high-speed or technical runs, but most people are looking for something more social anyways. If social interactions and fun aren't specifically what somebody is looking for, that's totally cool... I'm sure there are other people elsewhere with similar interests. RS is what it is and I'm very happy with the bike culture that people like Tommy, John (RIP), etc., laid the foundation for here years ago.

It's definitely not worth getting worked up about if you don't like this culture/social-first approach.

Meeting up at the Robson location tonight. If you're riding out from Richmond, we're meeting at Richmond bbt between 7-7:30. We're leaving Richmond at 730 and heading to Robson. Address is 1680 Robson street next to Santouka ramen. If your not riding out from Richmond, you can meet us at Robson around 8pm.

We'll then head out to Stanley park to catch Pokemon.. Maybe

604STIG 07-27-2016 08:55 AM

Finally got the bike back on the road. Now i'm crossing my fingers that OT eases off at work a bit so I can make it out to one of these meets. (And finally try some BBT)
