2016 MDX owner here. Also test drove the new RDX and the "was" newest generation. I'm a tech guy so the old oudated infotainment bugs me. The new RDX feels good but maybe it was some infatuation stage
The Straight Pipe review covers almost everything and they compare it to the competition
They have the classic J series V6 engine - Honda has been using this engine for over 10 years, Dead reliable - and since its a 3.5L engine - the compression isn't as high, and wont start knocking on shitty gas like the 3.7L engines
Only problem I've seen is Timing belt Tensioners leaking (replace it when you get the timing belt done anyways) and oil Seals leaking (every Japanese car)
The Transmission is a conventional 6 Speed automatic transmissions
Honda Hasn't really figured out the DCT tranny's yet and they were problematic at first.
Yes, this Generation of RDX is the most boring, its not sporty - its just a run of the mill SUV - but that's why people get SUVs... you want a sports car, get a sports car.
Protip, you have a newish one - and you're almost time for brake pads, bring it back to the dealer and complain about squealing, there is a huge bulletin on them for making noise. they'll replace the pads and rotors for free if you qualify
And to top it off, Since the new 2019s are out - they are clearing the 2018 V6s out and you should be able to get one for a pretty good deal

My cousin has the 2009-2010 MDX with the 5-speed before they changed it to 6-speed. Drank more fuel than my V8 X5 at the time on the hwy, and so much for Honda reliability. He had to get a new engine at 180,000km (covered under extended warranty)
Also the current MDX is still awful with that two-screen garbage. However the new RDX is great!

Just picked up a 2016 white rdx from north shore acura. Completely agree with you. Wife needed a SUV before the baby is born. It's not as fun as the 2019 but I daily drive a STI so I can't complain. It wasn't worth the extra 20 Grand price to get the 2019.
If you are looking at an MDX, the second generation had a problem (apparently common a lot of Acura's) with parasitic drains tracing back to the HFL module (hands free link module / bluetooth module).
Part is very expensive to replace. We just disconnected ours because my parents don't use bluetooth.
The problem resulted in about 15 jump starts during 2018 for us until we found what the problem was.
Fuel economy not so good, 80% city driving gets me 15l per 100k and that's with premium.
Glad we went with an X1, both have a turbo 4 and use premium. However we get 7L highway / 10L city /100km. We are in Saskatchewan so I'm sure the flatter roads over BC have an affect too.
gat damn that's 15mpg haha...that's horrible for a fi'd 4 banger
ok maybe wait for a mild hybrid or phev
wouldn't hold my breath having infotainment stuff fixed if it's not complete game breaking...many manufacturers suffer from downright annoying bugs, factory or aftermarket
Not to thread jack but any of you guys had any experience with the beak tl? I'm guessing with the 3.7l only with 6 Mt and sh awd? On paper it seems to be a fun MT sedan? Seems like a decent choice for something Mt + reliable? and relatively new? Only thing else I can think of is bmws with Mt, but Mt is hard to come by and you have to deal with turbo problems if you go turbo.
