Well how about this? Loud cars better drive fast then. Can't stand people who buy sports cars but drive it like a Prius.

On a serious note... a loud car can actually be a safety feature.

This is true.

The Toyota Prius has been considered one of the most dangerous cars on the road because it's too quiet.

Not really, because if it was loud it would end up making me look at it. In turn I'd likely vomit.

My boss has gotten two tickets in the last year. Stock F Type R. Both times tickets have been dismissed after an inspection at the dealer on his dime proved it was stock.

not really. a loud exhaust as a "safety feature" puts your safety in the hands of other motorists, hoping they can hear your presence. taking control of your own surroundings and being a defensive and aware driver trumps a loud exhaust every single time

I hope your boss sent an invoice to the police department.

I'd be pissed if I had to pay for an inspection due to ignorance of police officers.

Same as people getting VI for bone stock Viper ACR and Porsche 911 GT3RS.

No, that's not the point I'm making. In certain scenarios, a loud exhaust alerting awareness can make the difference, ultimately make it a safety feature in that specific scenario. A car that can be heard is always going to be more safer than a car that can't be heard.

It's the opposite reason of why a Prius that's too quiet can be dangerous.

Of course in the perfect world, if everyone just had full awareness, we wouldn't even have accidents in the first place. While defensive driving is good, it's a big difference from the more common distracted or passive drivers that are majority of traffic.

Yeah, driving around in track mode with the exhaust opened right?
Of course that's illegal to use on the street.

Except you don't hear it until the car/bike is past you, at which point you should be able to see it. Even if that was true 99.999% of the time a loud car or bike is still just an obnoxious douchemobile.

If you bring a dyno slip over 500hp to court the ticket will be cancelled. Less than 100hp including most Harley's the fines will double.

I don't have problems with them pulling over drivers/riders that are blatantly being loud and obnoxious. I do have a problem with them pulling over EVERY rider that goes past their roadside inspection spot to test every rider regardless of them appearing to be loud or not. If I know I have a loud exhaust but I make it a point to ride in higher gears in the city to keep the RPM's low and quiet then I shouldn't be getting pulled over and randomly tested. (I havent' been yet but I know this is a practice that they do) Pull me over for being loud not for being on a bike.

VPD should be cracking down DUI/texting/distracted drivers...

Loud cars, or loud motorcycles actually save lives and it is a good feature.

Unless the vehicle is running straight pipe, who cares.

Apparently Ducati Paniagel R (or was it Superleggera?) has one of the loudest exhaust on the market. People say "nobody is going to believe this is a stock exhaust"

if they do enforce this 'law' id be fine with the fine but the three points against the license is like wtf...

as for F-types they do have the active Exhaust button to quite it down or make it loud as hell.

If I remember correctly to actually do a proper dB testing for exhaust for auto inspections is "at 14ft in a silent room by a qualified inspector" and not at roadside with mobile equipment. I wonder how that is going to work then as well? If anyone who is a qualified inspector or say spidey or zulu chime in?

when i got pulled over in my old mustang with roush mufflers, the rcmp officer used a handheld dB meter standing behind me and he told me to rev up to half of redline. i think i scored around 110dB...

The thing with that is well you put a dB meter and inch or two away from the exhaust tip you can make a prius sound like a mustang....

VPD will fine loud motorcycles breaking excessive noise bylaw | Watch News Videos Online

This is what bugs me about this. The "objective observation by officers" can also be used to give you a ticket instead of using a decibel meter. Well what if the officer is having a bad day and just handing out tickets left right and center? and your car/bike is below the legal limit? You now have to waste time to dispute the ticket.

OK. I don't know about you, but my hearing picks up noises in a 360° radius.
