Do sellers just shoot for the moon on prices and hope they can lure in some rich sucker who has more money than cents??? The car is nice don't get me wrong as I do like Subaru's as a former owner of an STi. The thing is this is a RHD which automatically devalues the car and an obvious import to boot. Who knows what kind of accurate history the car has and I'll bet dollars to donuts the car has been "driven" if you catch my drift (no pun intended)
The fact the seller puts this little tidbit
Quote:
Please don't email me and compare my car to other GC8s or 2.5rs of this year and message me asking if I got my price wrong
makes me think he knows it's overpriced and that he's getting a ton of responses from people telling him how ridiculous his pricing is. I get that some cars do have that "it" factor hence the strong resale values like 993TT but not a damn Impreza.
I'm a Subaru fan boy but for $115,000 I'm buying an E30 M3 or Cayman GT4 without a second thought.
Any RS'er want to defend this listing and explain why the seller of this car isn't on crack? Maybe we can blame the low CDN dollar on this one cause it'd only be 5 figures instead of 6 @ $88,000 USD.
Call yourself a Subaru fanboy yet don't know the rarity of the car why 22b is so special. Iirc there is no lhd 22b. With how limited this car is I'm not surprise the seller think it is worth that much. Will it sell? Probabaly not, but that's not the point.
Btw this was posted in craigslist "good buy" thread at least one time lol.
On rhd devaluing car. Have you heard of the r34 gtr? Rhd only and ummm it can sometimes fetch more than a modern day r35 gtr.

Outrageous because there are other 22b selling for a lot cheaper? Or outrageous because you won't pay for it?
It's a unicorn. Therefore the unicorn owner can price r whatever they want. Again, doesn't mean that it will sell. Without anything else on the market you simply cannot make a comparison
^^ there a market sample, apparnatly it's a steal.
Work like new Porsches selling for above Msrp too. Stupid for sure but it is what it is

Is it expensive? yes. But you think a E30 M3 is worth $115,000 and a 22B is not? Why? IMO any E30 M3 shouldn't cost more than 50k (unless its a M3 EVO which puts us in the same category as the 22B ironically). and at that price its still too much. Is it an amazing car. Yes. Is it better than a 1M or the new M2 in terms of performance, comfort, practicality? NO. But i can see why it demands 50k because of nostalgia and driving feel(raw and visceral). There is only 400 of these in the world and that number is only gonna go down. I think its super expensive but I don't think the seller is out of line at all.

Yes it's an interesting car and yes it's rare, but just because it's rare doesn't mean it's valuable. From what I can tell the only differences are the front clip, wing, widened stance and bigger wheels?
Either way it's gonna get sold to some fanboy with more money than brains who will let it sit in the garage until it sells again. There's a lot of neat cars out there but the fanboy taxes on some of them are fucking absurd.

okay here is a "cheap" one from back in 2013 built from a stripped shell using oem spare/aftermarket parts, so not worth as much as an unmodified/original 22b. asking price was £22,000, which is roughly $40k cdn at today's rates... sigh. i was too busy gawking at nissan skyline GT-R prices and missed out :

That's just cosmetic, apparently the engine is 2.2L vs the 2.0l and Jalopnik said it hits 0-60 in 4.7.
Official numbers say 280PS (276ish HP) but thats due to the gentlemans agreement in Japan at the time to not advertise higher figures than that. The article I read said the figures are around 300-320hp.
I might be wrong though as I have about 10 minutes worth of experience with this car

I had a chance to bid on a 22B 2 years ago at a japanese auction. Sadly I lost by far. Final bid was around $5,500,000 which is around $65k CAD. Then add taxes, compliance, and all that extra stuff needed, it's gonna be around $90k landed.
