apparently you can't fail posts that are a week old now

underscore 08-17-2016 10:07 PM

Thinking about it, didn't the thank/fail system originally have some kind of limit on it? Like you could only give so many thanks per day or per X number of posts you made or something?

Unban the trolls who have perished.

I've definitely felt a decline on this site. I know that I lurk more than post now a days because not many threads interest me...

When I signed up for RS back in 2003, and for at least a couple of years after that, this forum was lively, active, and content rich. As the years go by, the overall atmosphere of the forum changed. Being fed up, I went on a hiatus for many years.

I started visiting RS on occasion again last year. The discussions and the old RS changed drastically. I still visiting now-and-then to see poster's input on current events and such.

:considered:

no... if you actually visited that section, it was serious questions, joe45 came up after and then it died.

roopi 08-18-2016 06:51 AM

There is way too many sections.

dat_steve 08-18-2016 08:14 AM

there used to be a lot more "call-out" style threads (14DB, Still Around Buddy Guy, etc) which made it super interesting. but now that would be considered bullying, right?

Hondaracer 08-18-2016 08:22 AM

If you don't post for fear of getting failed...:rukidding:

Or people simply got passed puberty and stopped acting like idiots.

Manic! 08-18-2016 10:08 AM

I think the way new members are treated is pretty bad and females even worse. That's why most of them don't stick around.

Haha, half the threads were all arguments over Imports vs Domestics and/or Mustangs vs Civics.

What I notice:

The import vs domestic bashing has subsided mostly because domestic manufacturers have totally upped their game in the last 13 years.

Less and less 20 somethings drive, let alone care about cars & modding them. My sister is 9 years younger than me, neither of her boyfriends over the years seemed to care about car culture at all. One drove a stock Ford Fusion, another drives a stock Nissan Altima. Boring.

And now with all the factory options (like factory stainless exhausts) and integrated systems and shit, it's getting harder and harder for a backyard DIY'er to do any meaningful mods.

I'm just glad that the whole Picnic table spoilers, Altezzas and Fireball exhausts on stock Civics CX's fad has blown over.

To be replaced with plastidipping everything under the sun, Vinyl Wrapping and Tron Lines...did things really get better?

This is pretty much what did it for me. I don't care that people use the fail button but at least explain why. If people aren't going to take time to discuss their point of view then why am I spending the time to present mine?

Now I pretty much lurk from time to time and log on once a year to bump the Hyde xmas hot pot thread every year.

If the fail button is kept, at least make it mandatory to post a reply before it's displayed

I don't think it has to do with domestic's upping their game. I think everyone just finally got tired of it and let it go.

MarkyMark 08-18-2016 01:11 PM

Or everyone just grew up. How many teenagers are even on this site now? When I was 19 arguments on imports vs domestics was interesting to me, now I'm more interested in the price of real estate. Some got old and left, others got old and stayed, and no new class came in to pick up the juvenile banter. Revscene went from Saved By The Bell to Saved By The Bell: The College Years :heckno:

We're one bad made for TV movie away from the end.

Tapioca 08-18-2016 01:38 PM

Teenagers are too busy with the latest app.

Women prefer to spend their time on Instagram or Pinterest, or writing comments on first-time Mom, travel and fashion blogs.

Others have gone away and started offering their advice, perspectives, and opinions on their own blogs and are getting paid for it. Why offer advice and comment here for free?

The "mods" you mention here are often being done on exotics - cars that don't need any other modifications... :troll:

twitchyzero 08-18-2016 08:08 PM

I mean at one point this site tred to develop more as a social media platform with member albums

any good reasons why the younger gen just arent into cars? It's not any more expensive...sure a little higher fuel prices. FnF and Initial D couldn't have contributed that much?

There are just too many reasons to list:

- Parents that take care of their children too well
- technology-based communication replacing in-person socialization
- too many other distractions / things to do to take up their time
- cost of car ownership
- widespread adoption of UPass

The fact is, kids these days aren't nearly as into cars as we were back then. It also doesn't help that the majority of cars today are absolutely boring to drive, and even more boring (or even ugly) to look at.

That's because kids these days care less about cars in general whether it's because of the environment or gender roles or they spent all their money on kale or whatever.

EmperorIS 08-18-2016 09:57 PM

How can any kid these days have enough money for a car when they spend it all on skins
