Motorcycle police helmets, are there cameras built in?

Just wondering, do police officers with those circle helmets have POV camera built in?

$26,000 per camera? VPD budget raises eyebrows | CTV Vancouver News

Quote:
The $17 million price tag for the cameras, the data storage, and recovering the video is so high it has critics wondering if it’s even real.
Quote:
The budget, obtained by a Freedom of Information request, says police estimate they will spend some $2,300 on each of the 660 cameras and accessories that would be worn by officers in the street.
Quote:
Right now, the force has eight cameras deployed on its public safety unit. Those cameras were in use during the shutdown of a tent city in Oppenheimer Park in 2014.

Is the estimate accurate or are they exaggerating?

A lot of cops ABSOLUTELY HATE cameras.
All they do is to tell people to "TURN OFF THE CAMERA!!"

I bet there are cheaper alternatives than $26,000 per camera. They might be making an excuse not to wear it.

Research shows that use of body-worn camera on officers will decrease the complaints by 93% https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...mplaints-study

$26,000 per camera? What an absolute joke. I understand that includes the recovery and storage of the data collected but the actual price should still just be a fraction of that figure.

$26,000 per camera is a ridiculous number. Many other police force have been able to find data storage/recovery solution for much lower cost as mentioned in the article.

But if you even look at the $2300 number alone. WTF kind of 'accessories' do they need on top on a GoPro Hero5's $5xx price tag??!

So what's the actual cost, $2300 per camera or $26000?

Police departments do waste money on something unnecessary, just like any government agencies do.

I've read an article a while ago how Victoria Police Department got rid of expensive, unreliable, poor performing Harley Davidson motorcycles and got Honda ST1300. Apparently it made a massive improvement both financially and their job performance.

However it was a very tough decision because Harley was supposed to be the "police tradition"
What a waste of tax. Same as $26,000 camera.
