How do you guys like the S8 so far? There's an offer on my Koodo account for $160 + $504 tab, and this is for the S8 plus model.

My current phone is the Nexus 6p, previous phones being the Nexus 6 and one plus one.

Things I mainly do are just Chrome browser, YouTube and WhatsApp.

Is the TouchWiz skin intrusive to the pure Android experience?

My alternative option is the Google Pixel XL, but the offer on my account is $210 + $504 tab

Buy it. I was unsure about touchwiz. But it's like none existent. Probably the best phone Samsung has made.

I actually ended up returning the phone. As much as I wanted to like the phone, I still have a strong preference for the pure Android experience.

Even though the hardware isn't so great or has its issues (Nexus 6, Nexus 6p), the software totally makes up for it. Just straight forward and simple to use.

If you want to use Dex mode, but don't want to pay $100 for that stupid dock, here you go.

Melopow Type-C usb adapter which somehow enable Dex mode for your S8/S8+
RMB78 = CAD13?

Just picked up the S8+ last week. Previously was using LG G4 which to me, had no issues. Just wanted a bigger screen and faster performance.

This thing is a beauty. But fragile. Only 1-2 days in possession, and I noticed hairline scratches on the screen. You can only see them at certain angles where the light is reflecting, but I don't keep coins or keys in my pocket, and it spends most of its time in my pocket, or on a table. So I don't know where these hairline scratches are coming from.

Regardless, I ordered the Spigen Neo Hybrid case and Neoflex screen protector. Arrived and installed with no issues whatsoever. The Spigen neoflex screen protector takes about 2-3 days for the air bubbles to cure, pending you installed it correctly. So far, no air bubbles or dust :)

I'd totally recommend this phone either to new customers or for upgrades. 10/10 in my books.

I've mentioned this before. Make sure you take the phone to the lake and make some underwater videos.
You will then rate the phone 12/10

never trusted samsung/gorilla claims the phone is scratch resistance.

I am not sure if anyone posted this yet but I am torn between a Note 8 and a S8. I had a Note 5 before and loved it. But now with the price difference so significant between the two I am wondering should I get a S8 instead. I do use the S pen very frequently and I know the dual camera is much better on a Note 8 but to pay so much more for that I am unsure.

If I just got those cheap stylus replacement at night market is it not the same as the S pen on Note 8? Just wondering.

thanks,

thanks,

The only question is that if you have use for the S Pen and you said you do so the answer is clear. The Note 8 is a great but pricy device but as your an S Pen user you will greatly appreciate it's usefulness.

Sounds like you are leaning towards Note 8 due to the S pen, but turned away by the hefty price tag. Try looking on Craigslist for bnib ones. Some people do hardware upgrades and sell the phones, sometimes can find it for cheaper.

planning to get a new phone while i'm in china. how do you guys feel about the camera of the s8+? i hear pixel camera is better but that's pretty all pixel has going for them.

asian_XL 10-08-2017 05:59 PM

I haven't seen a bad quality 2017 phone camera, even without dual camera, it is very high quality.

there are other things, support/compatibility for new google software.
First to get the newest updates... god know samsung takes their time.. and when S9 comes out, goodluck trying to get updates for the S8... I have the S7 and still on 7.0...
Then you have samsung bloatware, like their own SMS, Contacts, Dial apps, etc.. lol

I picked up an s8+ a couple weeks back (previous phone was an S6) and have been extremely happy with it. My biggest complaint with the S6 was the battery life. So far I don't think i've gone below 35% even on days of heavy use. On the S6 i'd have minimal use and need to charge the phone by 5pm.

I ended up putting a Spigen case and Spigen tempered glass cover on the screen and loved the case but the cover was a piece of shit. It barely has any adhesive on the sides and caused a lot of dust and hair to go between it and the screen. The first time I dropped the phone the thing popped off and shattered.

well how many years have you been using your S6? after 2 yrs, the battery life does diminish significantly.

i had the S6 for about 2.5 years but the battery life was shit almost from day 1. I can't remember ever making it a full day with more than 50% battery whereas I get over 50% battery life at the end of the day with the S8+.

J-Chow 11-30-2017 03:06 AM

I moved from a LG G4 to the s8+ with no regrets. Amazing phone. Plenty Fast, big screen, excellent battery life and expandable storage . Can't go wrong with that.
I used the spigen case and spigen neoflex screen protector. So far so good except the side of the screen protector tends to attract dust and pocket lint lol.

CorneringArtist 12-13-2017 01:12 PM

Partially related to S8 so I guess I can ask here.

Currently have an S7, and looking to replace it as the battery is now dogshit, the SIM tray won't stay in place (currently held down by electrical tape), and requires constant checking to make sure it isn't slowing down. I was thinking of either moving laterally to a Redmi Note 4, or waiting and seeing what else comes out/eating a tab price on S8. Kind of have my eye on phones with 4000mAh batteries. Options?

Love the phone but i cant tell if this battery is faulty or i just have different settings but man it sucks

It might be your phone. I've had mine for a few weeks now and the battery life is pretty damn good for me. Last me most of the day with moderate use

asian_XL 12-13-2017 05:06 PM

It really depends on your usage and setting.

Learned valuable lessons from Note2 and A9 Pro swelling batteries, I never charge my phone over night now. Once it hits 100% before sleep, I will unplug the phone. QC charger definitely a must at work to charge things up quickly.

yeah, I think you just got a dud. After a mild day of use my phone is at 72% right now.

Take a look at the device maintenance section, click on battery -> usage, and see what's using up the battery life.

I noticed that a lot of apps were running in the background on my phone and there's an option to turn off those apps so it doesn't drain the battery. I also use battery saver (customized on Mid level), and I could get between 14-18 hours of usage from the morning to evening with moderate - heavy usage.

The "Always On Display" drains your battery by 2 hours, so if you don't need it, turn it off.

guurl 12-19-2017 11:02 PM

Just got a note 8 today and im a little disappointed that the battery is smaller than s8 lol ?!?!? only reason for me getting the note 8 is because of the pen. definitely need it for work

MarkyMark 12-20-2017 07:18 AM

The Note 8s battery is bigger than the S8, but smaller than the S8+, which makes sense because it needs room for the S Pen.

Got the S8. One thing I never get is how come Iphone have such great standby time while android can't figure it out. Is like with my Ip6+ I can have it charge at 100% before bedtime and when I woke up it use only 2 to 3% battery but android phones usually will use 5 to 10% of battery life? Having a bigger battery doesn't mean much when most battery are drain when it is on stand by.

Just got the S8 a few days and is doing the same thing. Battery saver is set to Mid level customized with most apps force to close when now using. Only apps I leave active are what's up, wechat and line.
