only for 30mins at 1.5m.. so not exactly waterproof
even then, some phone's speaker has issues after being immersed in water.. No warranty on water damage phones, btw.. i rather throw on a extra protection if your gona take it into/near water...
The S8+ handles well despite being tall. The most impressive was the size and feel of the regular S8. The display looks phenomenal in person and the phone itself is much lighter than the S7&S7E equivalents.
I just realized they got rid of the Samsung logo in the front..nice
wonder how touchwiz ui and battery will hold up after a year
why does their software team have to come up with Bixby? LG was able to get google assistant on the G6

have both.. long press on the home icon will bring up google assistant..
well when the finger print scanner is placed correctly, its actually pretty awesome having it on the back. case in point, nexus 6p and the google pixel. the sensor on those two phones is placed right in the middle of the back so its kind of a natural place for your index finger to fall into when pulling the phone out of your pocket.
samsungs implementation of the finger print sensor on the back is just like seriously? why in the world would you stick it right next to the bloody camera. that being said, the rest of the phone is pretty damn nice. i do have doubts about battery life though.. 5.8" screen with a 3000mah battery? gonna have to wait for the reviews to know for sure.

Prior to having played with the phone I would totally agree. While I would also prefer the sensor to be underneath the camera the FPS itself wasnt as hard to reach as I once thought, even on the S8 Plus.
the s8 looks really nice in person.. but not really worth the extra price tag retail over the LG G6 which looks just as stunning. have the luxury to play with both and ended up getting the G6 instead

As long as the G6 doesn't have the stupid boot loop issues, I actually think it's quite more durable than the S8.
Rep came by the store and banged the G6's corner on the side of the table pretty hard and there was no damage on the phone. The lack of edge screen also minimizes potential drop damage.

Well.. I think Samsung is going with the Iris/Face detection as first method of unlock then the Fingerprint as secondary unlock.
with all the boasting of their iris scan way back from note 7, i think they just want a redemption at it...
They wanted to to implement the fingerprint scanner into the entire screen but couldn't work out the kinks so in a last minute decision put it on the back which resulted in the awkward placement. I'm guessing the Note 8 will have it, maybe they'll rush it again...
A new report from The Investor claims that Samsung poured a lot of money into Synaptics to help them in developing an on-screen fingerprint reader to allow users a larger-than-ever Infinity Display as well as an easier way for them to unlock their phone. However, Synaptics reportedly failed to develop the technology in time for the mass production of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. As a result, Samsung had no option but to relocate the fingerprint reader beside the rear-facing camera.
Went ahead and canceled my reservation through Rogers and pre-ordered through Samsung outright, Rogers didn't want to negotiate on my keeping my current plan. Cheaper in the long run to just out right buy the phone.

For those familiar with the S8, is it going to be a major upgrade from the S7 edge?
I like my edge, but Samsung needs to rebound from the Note 7 debacle, and as such probably has thrown some great ideas into the S8. If they're serious about rebounding from that mess, this could be a great phone to do that.

Rogers is funny like that. We're on an old grandfathered 6gb plan, and they make everything I do a pain. Our company has 12 phones with Rogers, and they continuously try to get us to sign on a plan that offers 2gb for $5 more a month. I actually asked my rep if she thought I was an idiot? She looked at me sheepishly and said "I have to bring this up. Management doesn't like the old plans". Corporate dickheads.....

that seems to be the common thing these days for all carriers.
I'm having some issues as well.
For Fido
no S8+ right now and they don't know when they'll offer it
can't get the promo for gear VR + controller unless I sign a 2 yr contract
I have the $40 for 4gb plan, which is a bring your own phone plan, so it's ineligible for a contract
For Samsung
Only way for fido dollars to work is if i sign a 2 yr contract. Even then I need to pay for the phone, then Fido will apply the Fido dollars as a credit to my account.

right.. since Samsung couldnt boast about the new fingerprint sensor, they opted to to use it as secondary unlock method instead of primary and chose to to go with the Iris sensor from the Note 7.
Im guessing if Synaptics got the fingerprint senor working the Iris scanner prolly wouldnt have made its way to the S8 and would be the feature for the Note 8.
Im sure to bet that the new unlock method for the Note 8 that Samsun will boast will be the Synaptics under glass fingerprint sensor... if they can get it working...
