That's the general consensus for any phone.

unless you really need the greatest/latest, it's wise to skip an iteration of any phone, iphones, samsungs, whatever.

Im having a really hard time deciding between the s8 and g6, i like how i can hold the g6 better and reach the top and side easier, the s8 feels really skinny and tall and very light! I wish the front camera and low light capabilities of the s8 were on the g6 :(

Ive also had the worst like with samsung, s4 died for no reason and was out of warranty, s6 had the battery plague and s7 edge had the network drop plague.

Fuuuuucl but the s8 is such a pretty phone to behold!!!! Maybe i should just stick with my OP2 and wait for the note 8 vs v30 vs OP4

I'll let you know when I get my S8+. From my limited time playing with the S8+ I will say it's only worth it if your a tech geek like me.

I chose the S8+ but it really depends whats important to you in a phone:

Fast Qi charging vs Standard Qi Charging
5.8in/6.2in vs 5.7in
AKG Tuned DAC(unconfirmed) vs Unknown DAC
Curved screen vs flat screen
AMOLED vs IPS LCD
3000/3500mah battery vs 3300mah
12.2mp camera vs. 13mp and 13mp wide angle
8mp AF front camera vs 5mp non AF
Grace UX vs LG software
Snapdragon 835 vs 821
$1035/$1115 vs $900

This Spigen case came in today. Anyone looking for a slim, good quality, full coverage TPU case I highly recommend it.

I like the G6 design, but the S8 specs are better.

In the end, I got the G6 because it's $400 cheaper if you trade in an applicable phone (like ghetto Alcatels, S3, iPhone 4, etc).

MarkyMark 04-07-2017 06:11 AM

I like the flat design of the G6, but it's running last year's processor and it's camera isn't really getting great reviews, so it already seems dated.

SaviorSelf_666 04-07-2017 07:47 AM

Would the G6 suffer from bootloops issues like the G4 and V10/20? LG scares me for reliability.

i got a spigen too, but the one that's even slimmer (basically just a bumper). I personally can't stand the buttons being covered.

Yeah, the G6 is like a refresh of the G5. The processor and camera aren't as great as the S8, but it's like $500 after trading in an applicable phone, so it's a pretty decent deal.

We have a S8 at my workplace, and while it looks great on paper, I hate the curved display and the overall width of the phone. So while the G6 isn't a perfect phone, I'll accept it's compromises for what is half the price of the S8.

May I ask where did you get this trade-in deal? Thanks

MarkyMark 04-07-2017 11:30 AM

If you can get the G6 for 500 bucks then it's definitely worth it. At 800+ not so much.

Where is this deal?! Please teach me oh master!

Edit: its a fido promo!

Razor Ramon HG 04-07-2017 01:22 PM

Yeah, Fido.

Basically, you trade in an applicable phone (iPhone 4, Samsung S3, some shitty Alcatels and Huawei, etc) and get $400 off the cost of the phone.

You can then call in to cancel the same day or next day and they'll only charge you the remainder.

Do you have to agree on a 2 year plan to get this deal ? If u cancel it after, what is the cost u have to pay for the device and are there any penalties for cancelling the plan ?

Yeah, sign up on contract and cancel after.

I signed up on the $65 1GB plan, so here is the breakdown. The upfront/device balance will be different if you choose a different plan, but should add up to be about the same.

619 x 1.12 = 693.28
693.28 - 400 = 293.28
(269 + 15) * 1.12 = 318.08

Total = 611.36

619 was upfront cost, 269 was device balance, 15 was the activation charge. Trade-in amount applies after taxes.

On my paperwork, I believe it stated that my device balance was $281, but the rep on the phone when I cancelled said it was $269, so I can't confirm until I get the bill in a month.

bigzz786786 04-08-2017 02:55 PM

^thats pretty sweet, all i would need to do is get the phone unlocked then.

I wonder if any of the big 3 will do a similar deal for the s8

I read it locks to the first SIM, so if you make sure they don't turn it on (say it's a gift) then it should be ok.

i doubt the big 3 will subsidize the phone like the G6. LG probably the one subsidizing the phone to try to push as many g6 on the market as possible before the launch of the s8 and trying to get the ppl that's waiting for the s8 to release first before deciding to get the g6 instead.. i mean at $600ish.. it's almost a no brainer..

twitchyzero 04-08-2017 09:10 PM

great deal!

Tempted to get the Grey s8+. But keep telling my self to wait for the note 8. Ugh. Need new phone badly

What about the fee when you terminate a wireless plan early? I read on the Fido website there is an early cancellation fee. Section f Fido Terms and Conditions

I'm currently in the same spot. Had my Note 4 since launch (2.5 years) and on my 3rd battery. It's laggy as fuck but nothing I can do about it. Laggy as in it takes 15 seconds to load my Snapchat camera after pushing the button.

I currently carry a battery pack everywhere I go and not sure I'd want to go another 6 months before seeing a new phone that may or may not explode in my pants.

I think I'll wait. I like Samsung displays but too much bloat ware

yea i got an Note 3. I prefer the Note line over the S line.
My phone keeps dropping phone calls and data. a bit annoying.
but last year I wanted the S7 edge but i waited for the Note 7 to come out and man. I was impressed!

Samsung displays are nice. But software has to much bloatware. Hopefully pixel 2 is good
