$40 4GB data unlimited Talk/Text Public Mobile

Just made the switch today. Great plan offered by Public Mobile.

Prepay $120 for 90 days to get unlimited province wide talk and unlimited international text and 12GB of data which works out to $40/month with 4GB/month.

Use auto-pay to save $2/month

For each person you refer, save another $1/month

Used to be on Rogers Corp plan but due to price increase, this new plan was a no brainer to switch over.

How is the coverage with Public Mobile? This kind of intrigues me to switch over from my Wind 10GB $40 plan

I've only used Rogers and Telus and they are pretty similar. Public Mobile is owned by Telus

Don't know much about Wind coverage but heard from friends it isn't that good compared to the Big 3.

Razor Ramon HG 10-26-2016 07:30 PM

This plan pretty much kills all other competitors.

From what i read, promo plans are grandfathered as long as you keep renewing it.

Nabatron 10-26-2016 09:46 PM

Never mind it is on LTE! Better then wind then!

mk1freak 10-26-2016 10:11 PM

it does use telus LTE and i'm leaning towards making the switch

Damn. 12.5 years of Fido loyalty and they didn't give me anything either. I even had 300 fido dollars that expired on me. I thought I had it rough but never mind.

After 90 days, you repeat and prepay for another 90 days.

Unfortunately deal applies to province wide Talk. For canada wide, you can buy long distance add on.

You wont be able to receive calls outside your home province.

So after 90 days, you pay $120/90 days and so on forever?

EDIT : nevermind read more, will be grandfathered as long as you're a customer and renew prior to 90 days.

blkgsr 10-27-2016 06:52 AM

so if you forget to renew your screwed?

edit: just read about the auto pay so it auto renews?? sorry just want to make sure because i'm most likely going to forget to renew every 90 days.

Correct, grandfathered as long as you're a customer and renew.

Best to set to autopay or have enough in balance so that it renews by itself.

If you forget, there may be some leeway but I wouldn't chance it. Set to Autopay and don't have to worry come renewal time

blkgsr 10-27-2016 08:55 AM

ya for sure....I've been with rogers for 16 years so forgive the questions:

1) order new sim card online from PM
2) once received set up plan then port number
3) cancel with rogers

I don't even think you have to formally cancel with rogers. I think what happens is once you send over that port number request, they'll be the one to tell rogers you're cancelling and you'll just get a final bill from rogers, typically a prorated amount of your monthly bill

This was a little worrisome to me, but the nice thing is that you can buy a long distance package, and apparently, it just stays on your plan until you use up the minutes.
Usually when I get a call when I'm out of province, I call them back on some local/internet line anyways. So in theory, one LD package should last me... forever.

Simplex123 10-27-2016 10:08 AM

Oh wow I thought it was only for the first 90 days and then you're screwed. But if you can renew that is pretty sweet. I'm on the Koodo $48 though but this would work well for my parents!
