| GE Top Freezer Warm Issue
GE GTH16BBSXRWW Model (Top/Bottom Freezer/Fridge)
The freezer is warm as it appears the evaporator coils are not working. I hope that's what the coils are called...(Not a technician in refrigerators).
As shown on the image, there are two areas that are burnt (Burnt area 1+2) which leads me to believe it's the coils. How am I supposed to remove this entire part and replace, I've made a circle highlight on the image and that area is glued shut tight...
Anyone have any thoughts or could lead me to the right direction? |

That's not the kind of thing you're likely to be able to DIY, there's gonna be the refrigerant in there which I believe is pressurized. Call up a smaller local appliance repair shop and see what they say.

To replace the condensor/evaporator will likely cost upwards of $700. Not something you can do yourself.
Part = $400-500
Service call $200
Recharge refrigerant $200
Might as well save the headache and go buy a new fridge. If you in surrey or richmond check out Budget Appliances and ask for the revscene discount |

This happened to my parents' fridge a number of years ago (it was a Frigidaire unit.)
Because it is a Sears unit, we literally hauled it to Sears and little did we know, we found out the hard way that it was cheaper to buy a new fridge because the cost of the replacement part was new old stock and the refrigerant was going to cost just as much so we just said fuck it. The manager there even gave us a form to fill out to get a rebate and a 5% off coupon to buy a new fridge at Sears so in the end, it was win/win, except for having to haul the fucking thing there in the first place. The cherry on top? The new fridges were much more energy efficient than the electrical vampire our old fridge was.

Thanks for the input guys, I was leaning towards getting new fridge as well since I had a feeling more or less replacing the busted part would cost minimum few hundred.
Not sure what's going on with GE products, both my fridges at home have gone through its issues. Luckily my main fridge, I managed to fix it myself.
Is there any specific brands recommended for fridges?

I have only had experience with Fridgidaire, Maytag, Kenmore, and Blomberg.
All have been solid, except for the Blomberg. As you would expect it to be high quality, the workmanship is piss poor as the fridge we had was built in Turkey. We've had to request warranty on it four times in a year where it was discovered the electrical workmanship was shoddy, I wasn't sure if I had purchased the BMW of fridges because all it did was leak like a bitch. Not to discredit the entire brand because I know they make good products, but be sure to go the extra mile to learn about where the products were made, and to ask good questions to the sales representatives and technicians what their experiences have been like for warranty/repairs.
Ultimately, you will have to decide on what you want and how much you are willing to pay, especially when it comes to look/finish, features etc.

Anything but LG or Samsung, both of those companies won't release parts schematics and repair documents to appliance service companies. Which is great for them, but for us the consumer it means that you have to wait forever to get your appliance repaired as they only have a few guys locally that repair it, and they always busy fixing someone's appliance. You could be waiting months for a simple repair, because they are busy with other jobs. Anything that Dukes said would be a good choice.

Oh, yeah. Fuck LG and Samsung appliances. Only a small handful of shops are authorized repair centres and they really are too busy to give a shit about fixing your broken appliance because they've got 300 other customers to take care of in a week. Like J.Bell said, they don't release their parts diagrams or schematics so if you want to buy a part to repair yourself, you will regret it.

I'm gonna check out Sears on Kenmore fridges first and see what they got. I've used their products and always built like a tank, no issues ever. My parents owned a vacuum cleaner that was longer than I have been alive LOL, eventually broke down after 22 years.
I only asked which brands to recommend because I haven't bought appliance in awhile, not sure what has changed. Thanks for the tips guys!

Sears doesn't build their own appliances.
Depending on the type of appliance, Kenmores are rebadged Frigidaire, GE or Whirlpools
