Original Paintings

So I know this is an odd question to ask RS, but I figured there must be at least one person on here who must know the answer to this. I'm looking to purchase some new paintings for my house. This is purely for visual presentation, not an investment portfolio. Budget would be a max of $500 per painting. I know there are a couple of places down in Vancouver that sells original artwork, but they're designed more for investment and typically average something close to $2000 each.

I know of Studio Mojo Artwork in Richmond and obviously Etsy, but I was hoping there were other places I could check out.

Try the listings on Eastside cultural crawl website

Eastside Culture Crawl | A visual arts, design and crafts festival.

Most of the artists I know there are pretty approachable

I think some coffee shops and restaurants have art work on display as decor but if you look closely they have signs with prices and the name of the painting. Im assuming they're from local artists. They appeared to be in the price range you were looking for.

Probably main street coffee shops and restaurants might be a good place to look. I remember being a student and studying at the grind by main and king edward, they had art for sale. But that was years ago..

Camelia tea and coffee for sure had some art work for sale when I would go there during the summer. They're by Royal Oak Skytrain station.

for a $500 budget stick with some limited edition prints, Robert Bateman would be your best choice since his prints never go down in price if you like that style.

Best deals on paintings and prints would be auctions, Cotton Auctions in Port Coquitlam always has collectibles and pictures n paintings all the time. U could even check their live auction online

I actually had an artist on eBay do a custom abstract piece for me in colours I chose to match the space and the dimension I needed to fit an alcove. Think it was around $300 delivered to my door for a roughly 4' x 2' piece.

I liked the stuff she had in her portfolio so I reached out. Several emails and days later it was on the way.

I've been to many of the culture crawls, ROVE, etc. $500 doesn't go very far for the most part unfortunately

Auctions is where its at! maxsold.com always has wicked deals on everything including artwork. Just gotta keep checkin it regularly and you can potentially find something great. And since its a bidding process its more fun buying it and you'd have a better story to tell about how you got the painting.

I buy prints. usually between 100-200usd, and by the time you do custom framing that's $500 right there.

for that price, you could take some acrylic or oil paint classes and paint your own.

Contact a fine arts dept. at a local university and ask if they have students that would be interested in taking commissions. If you're limited to $500 per piece and your interest is strictly in decoration then why not consider prints?

^I was going to suggest that. Plenty of struggling artists out there.
