Looks like somewhere in the NW. It would be cool to Googlemaps that current location.

At 3:05 some guy starts doing burnouts and donuts. At 3:50 he ends up in the ditch.

Just the imagine if this video was shot today.

makes me really miss the the port kells drag races. those were so fun to go to in high school. just crazy car show at time hortons and then everyone goes off to drag race. the golden age of tuners vs domestics. unfortunately they shut down right about the time i got a worthy car.

Haha yup these days are loooooong over... And also it's a funny lesson in technological development because a modern day Toyota Camry V6 could show up at any of these races and destroy 95% of these cars lol

I would imagine part of the excitement is in the sketchiness of the handling

Too bad, because that was a well built SS for back in the day. Sure, the tires couldn't bite, and you could see the chassis flexing as he throttles.

But the blower is money. It almost makes up for the fact that he has zero suspension work done.

Hard to believe that at time most of those cars weren't even considered "classics" yet. I bet most of those guys used them as daily drivers.

Back then I don't think there was much available for suspension upgrades. The "pro-touring G-Machine" aftermarket really only took off in the Late 90's/ 2000's

Totally.
My dad used to tell me that they had rudimentary knowledge of spring tuning, but limited access to guys who could make them springs. You could buy good shocks, and ladder bars but there weren't many guys doing that due to cost. So they were left with low tech tires and poor suspension design. Rubber blocks in the springs to increase spring rate was common, hahaha!

It's crazy that these cars actually stayed on the road.

I remember back in the late sixties/early seventies in Lake Cowichan, the local drag racing club called Ramcos Car Club put a drag car in the local parade. The cops were not impressed with the burnouts they did along the parade route.

That sounds like the last couple of years with the Langley car show. Tons of guys doing burnouts down fraser highway the night before the show. It's a lot of fun to be a part of the hooning, but things do go wrong at times.

Especially when the Mustang guys show up.
