In my opinion, there are too many nanny features like blind spot, backup sensors, cameras, radar, auto brakes, autopilot etc. For me, that defeats the purpose of driving anymore. It definitely requires skill, intelligence, and common sense to operate a vehicle.
I mean, I'm all for backup cameras and sensors for larger vehicles that legit have blind spots or are hard to judge the length of the vehicle. Ya don't need it for small passenger vehicles. Then again, with all the vehicle designs with the windows getting smaller and smaller, maybe you do need them... |
I think this is part of the problem actually. To me, these are all things to aide me in my driving and awareness of my surroundings. I know that there are some people who think that if the blind spot light isn't on its safe to change lanes but I think this is a problem with people and marketing rather than the car itself.
do I need a backup camera? nope, but does it provide me extra information to make sure I'm not hitting something behind me in those sitautions where I'm boxed in?..definitely.
Do I need cross traffic alert? nope, but will it help give me more information to stop in those situations where i'm parked between two giant ass trucks and can't see shit when I'm backing out?...yup
I don't depend or rely on these things, but its just one more piece of information I can use at my disposal to make better decisions.
again...I'm sure lots of people do NOT think this way...but thats not the cars fault.
