| ICBC writeoff question
My mother got into an accident recently and ICBC said they're going to write off her car. a am not sure how much they going to offer her but probably my guess is probably lower then the actual value of the car. Her car is a 2009 Civic with only 30000 km. Is the write off value negotiable?

How do you know they're going to offer less if they haven't offered anything yet and what value do you put on the car?

Check what fair market value for the car is and then wait for an offer from ICBC. You can negotiate if you deem the offer unfair. Be prepared to offer examples.
IF for some reason you get them to fix it instead of writing it off the depreciation of the vehicle will vastly outweigh any loss you may have got from a payout. Especially given the extent of the damage.

Does the civic have aux input by the 12v socket? Can I have it?
Yes it is negotiable. Like berz said find out what market value is for yourself. Use Craigslist, kijiji, auto trader, etc.
Search more on these forums, you're not the first person to deal with icbc regarding a totalled car.

Berz out. | Thx for the offer, but full panel swap from civic to civic would be much more simple..

In my experience and from what I have heard from others, most people have had good luck with ICBC giving them decent value for their vehicles. They gave a friend like 9k for his car that he had bought for like 6k a year earlier, and this wasn't the only instance I have heard of that sort of thing.
The only time I've heard someone being unhappy is when they start to place sentimental value and shit on the car. "ohhhh but it was my first car", yes motherfucker it was, and now the front seat is where the back seat was and the engine is by your trunk, so take the money and run.

Also don't forget that they will offer you say $10k
Not all of it is cash. Some of that will be tax voucher which you can use towards new vehicle purchase.
