Enclosed/Open Car Transporter Recommendations

Recently purchased a car in Red Deer and need to bring it back to Vancouver.

Car has summers on it so driving it back with the current condition isn't an option.

I've gone through the old threads and they're all based upon shipping by rail which won't be an option for me. Anyone have experience or recommendations for shipping by truck? Quotes I've gotten so far are 1k+ which seems on the higher end given the relatively short distance.

Wow two weeks ago I could have to helped you, we bought an 8x24 enclosed car hauler from the ritchie bros auction in edmonton and drove it back to BC empty.

Give MVS a call, they do lots of work in AB, and all over canada really. I've used them to ship trucks from edmonton to BC twice now, and they've done a good job. Although I don't know their price for an enclosed haul will probably be around the same range you have currently.

EDIT: Also... Pics? What'd you buy???

What vehicle is it? Probably need an enclosed and its around your price for that. $650-700 is standard pricing Edmonton to Vancouver on a semi

I recommend getting a quote from Hansen's https://www.lhf.com/

Shipped a small car Victoria to Quebec for 1300. Majority of the trip was by rail.

This might be a stupid suggestion but why not just buy some snow tires and drive it back? probably a lot cheaper than transporting.

THIS!! I'm assuming you bought something awesome hence your request for enclosed transport.

I used TFX International from Ontario to Vancouver and it was about $2,100 + tax last summer. They did provide excellent service, were very careful and delivered exactly when they said they would. I'd use them again based on their work ethic.

It may be a vehicle that he doesn't want to get rock chips, or salt and shit on. For all we know he just bought a Mclaren F1.

I second that. Used TFX couple years ago from Montreal to Vancouver.

Hauls for Weissach and many others all over western Canada, he's the best option out there for enclosed, great price IMO.

$11k. Its a 2015, and doesn't look like it's ever had a load in it. Someone definitely lost some money on it.

it's got 7000lb axles, and that's a bit more than a standard tandem trailer with 5k or 6k axles on it. So I spent a bit more than the average joe might, then again we use these things in a different league compared to the average joe with my line of work, so the extra beef is necessary.

Those Nisku ritchie bro's auctions are crazy these days I was there two years ago when they held the biggest equipment fire sale in the world, and it's been on a similar level ever since. They have a major sale every 3 ish months. And it's crazy, everything from 80T RT's and 225T crawlers, to 45' diesel manlifts, to pickup trucks and flatdecks, herman nelsons, tractors, hoes, fuck you name it they got it for sale.

And people come from all over the world, this past time I was talking to people from argentina and chile who come up cause it's cheaper to buy this shit up here at auction and have it shipped down, than to buy at the rape prices in south america.

The Chilliwack auction is on Wednesday, but not to the scale of the Edmonton auctions.

Thank you gents!

To answer the above, no uship as it's just brokers farming the job out to random transporters and I really would rather pay the extra couple hundred than to have to deal with a damaged or vastly delayed car. Same reason for no rail, for every success story of a car being delivered via rail, is another where lot monkeys damaged the car, bagged on it, stole shit out of it, etc.

I was actually recommended James by the PO so he's definitely one of the first choices.

Car is an one owner, fully loaded (bison leather interior, mtech2) 1991 325is

Nice unicorn purchase. Those have frequented BaT and I think there are even a couple currently listed. In a lot of ways I prefer the fender arches on the normal 3's over the blisters on the E30 M3. Great purchase

For if anyone else is looking to ship enclosed, here are the quotes I've gotten:

TFX - $1,020
James - $1,050
MVS Canada - $800
Allied - $2,475
Reliable - doesn't ship in Canada
Intercity - doesn't ship in Canada

I was tossing around the idea of doing this initially. But the risk reward just didn't add up.

Flights for two (so buddy can huff it to the gas station or help push when things go south out of cell reception) - 300
Gas - 200 (~10L per 100 km of premium at average of $1.45/L with a distance of 1,100 km)
BCAA membership - 150
Snow tires - 600
Hotel for the night should conditions be sketchy - 150

Easily more than shipping costs. Although you could say the snowies + BCAA can be continually used, it's still a 26 year old that has been stored for a few years that we'll be driving through a lot of no reception areas. Hell I did San Diego to Vancouver a few years back by myself in a 41 year old 240Z so it's not for a lack of courage - I'm just older and smarter now
