Kei car + JDM scene

Anyone local YVR have, or is into, JDM, Japanese vintage, or kei cars? JDM as in not tuner imports, but Japanese only market models. I just picked up a kei car and seeing if anyone else here has one as well.

there are lots of standard jdm stuff out there (are we the final repository for legacy wagons, delicas and hilux here in bc?) but sadly i rarely see any vintage or kei cars on the street, only on craigslist... there is the same tired honda beat or suzuki cappucino that comes and goes and never seem to sell

^^ because they ask way too much lol. Those little pao's or figaro were being imported for $3k a few years ago. Now if you see them on CL people ask 18k for it. Not on your life

They're becoming legal to import in US, hence their value is going up. But we've been getting them here for awhile so local value shouldn't be as high.

I also rarely see kei's on the road in Vancouver in the past years besides Sambars and kei trucks. Only seen an Alto Works, a Jimny, and a Midget II (the past 2 years combined); and your typical (non kei's) Paos, Figaros, Delicas, SCargo, etc.

I just picked up my Autozam (Mazda) AZ-1 from the port, currently prepping for inspections.

the closest i've ever come to driving something this small was a figaro, but once i stuffed myself inside i couldn't close the door because my arm was in the way... fail.

2 cylinder, 550cc air cooled 4 speed manual. Absolute death trap and would maxout (safely) at about 85km/h. Never wanted to sell it and regret it.... But sold that and the ruckus to buy my focus ST.

The old vans/trucks are so cool! I always wanted a Subaru 360 van. Here's my kei I just picked up this week (imported from Japan). 1992 Autozam (Mazda) AZ-1. I got it up to 90-100kph and had plenty of speed left. Didn't want to push it more since still not used to it and was raining. It's electronically-governed to 140kph/87mph. Same dual-cam turbo engine as the Suzuki Alto Works, red lines at 9000.

I'm 5'7" so I don't have any problem. Had a friend who's 6'3", he can't fit in the driver's seat; knees up against the shifter. I heard 6' 1" can drive them if you relocate the seat an inch or two further back than stock max, smaller steering also helps. Mine has a small 250mm (10") steering wheel and helps for taller people, but changing it to 300mm (11.5") eventually.

father in law is driving several kei cars and kei vans in Asian, even the Suzuki with turbo is hard to keep up with the highway speed. Crash safety is another issue, there is no leg room at all.
