^ a real detail starts at least $150 with at the most basic clay bar and wax. What you are describing is something high school kids do for fundraising at that price. there is several speed hand cleaning service by superstore. However I think even them charge more than 40$.

mind as well pay your neighbor's kid $40 to clean your car for you

No, I think op is referring to a full basic wash, which $30 will do.

BMS hands down is the best in the buisnees. Joe and his wife are just fantastic at what they do. Although it's a bit more money than say your average car wash, the quality in the work and products used is quite evident.

From their site:

Spoiler!

They are good, but if you want something cheaper, I highly recommend JRS Auto Spa, which does the same as above, except for only $25-30. BMS has made a name for themselves, which is why they can charge an arm and a leg for a basic wash.

JRS Auto Spa is now gone and replaced with RTG (I think they just changed owners and rebranded as the website for JRS redirects to RTG). I had a hand wash yesterday and they beat up my paint pretty good - was hoping to avoid a polish this season but they did enough damage that I'm gonna have to do one this year rather than put it off. I didn't watch them work but it looks like they just dragged their dirty mitts back and forth across my car without any rinsing of the mitts.

If you're just looking to wipe down the interior/wash the exterior, I'd recommend doing it yourself.

Buy some Autoglym products from Canadian Tire. They're decent. Sure, you may spend more than $40-$50, but they'll last multiple cleanings. Plus, you'll probably do a better job because it's your own car versus some dude who's getting paid next to nothing and doesn't give a crap about wiping down a stranger's car with a dirty scummy rag.

I used to go to Bashir's. They seemed pretty decent then. How are they now?
