1j fd

Hi I've been very interested in the fd chasis for a long time. I know you guys are gonna hate for swapping a rotary but for someone who is tight on budget who's just trying to get a dream car I would like to know how much it would approximately cost. I've been thinking of swapping a 1jz into the fd.
Does anybody know how much that would cost? W/ labor, w/o labor?
I would like to know the cheapest option possible

Cheapest option; do it in your driveway

Having a proper shop do it where you just throw them the car and motor... just pulling a number out of my ass i'm gonna say $10k

If you have a shop to work in and know what you're doing I bet you could do it for a couple grand including cost of the motor.

Unless its really uncommon, there are premade wiring harness out there for popular motors. For your application here:

RX7 1JZGTE VVTi Swap Wiring Harness - Wiring Specialties

There is also a swap kit for motor mounts and they have harnesses too:

RX7 FD

Of course the prices are in US so that doesn't help any of us out. Look at some build threads cause you're definitely not the first to want to do this then decide

$4500 cad after converting and you will probably still need to buy more... fan setup, exhaust etc

I looked into the 6 speed cd009 tranny, would that make the build a tad bit more expensive? Kinda leaning towards a 6 speed rather than the r154

And thank you guys so much for the input, i know i could have searched for it online but most i've found are felt a bit outdated and i wanted to known if there are options that i might have missed

My estimate would be around $15k-$20k to drop it off at a shop and have them do everything PROPERLY.

Honestly i dont mind the horsepower much for now, I just wanna be able to put the engine in the fd asap with some reliability. Even n/a is fine at this point, I teally just want to build it as a car I can use daily as it really is a dream car of mine

Edit: also i was wondering, since its cheaper to just get an AT fd from japan, would the swap still be do-able or are there any additional jobs needed to be done?

I would rather have the 1JZ than the rotary but I would not attempt this swap on a budget. You will end up cutting corners resulting in an unreliable setup.

I am considering the Nissan CD009 6 spd as well for my 2JZ auto. Waiting for someone to get all the bugs out first. V160/161 is 10k now and R154 doesn't have a great reputation for smooth shifting.

So will buying an automatic tranny rx7 be a cheaper way to go since they sell for less in auctions in japan? And will around 10k be enough to build a reliable/ decent 1j swap? It does not have to be perfect as i plan to put more but for now 10k is allni can go

I don't know how much cheaper RHD auto RX7's are but you will have to deal with extra hassles such as getting manual pedals, shifter, clutch slave/master if applicable, rear end gearing may be different on the auto (it is on the MKIV Supra).

You will need to find out how much more it will cost you to swap an auto to manual or if you are better off starting with a manual.

1J is a great option.

Unless you plan to keep it an auto after your engine swap, don't buy an auto. Not sure if it's the same with an FD but the FC auto to manual swap costs more in time/parts/effort than just buying a manual and saving yourself the hassle.

I would highly recommend joining Vancouver 7s if you're on facebook. I know there's at least 1 guy on there that's done a JZ swap (I think it was a 2jz though).
