Perception of car brands

I got talking with my co workers today and it's interesting to get their take on car brand perceptions vs mine. Of course everyone would have their personal biases, geographical location, demographics , levels of income etc but overall in Vancouver this seems to be agreeable at least amongst my peers

Top being better , lower being worse perception wise. I.e you look more wealthy driving a VW vs a hyundai

Exotic:
Ferrari
Rolls Royce
Lamborghini
McLaren
Bentley
Maserati
Aston Martin
Lotus

Luxury:
Porsche
Mercedes
BMW
Audi
Land Rover
Jaguar
Alfa Romeo (somewhere around here)
Lexus
Acura
Infiniti
Volvo
Mini
Cadillac
Lincoln

Mainstream:
Volkswagen
Fiat
Honda
Toyota
Mazda
Subaru
Nissan
Ford
GM
Chrysler
Hyundai
Kia

I'm probably missing things but do you fellas generally agree that the populace of Vancouver would see that a Jetta driver is better off than a Elantra driver when they essentially cost the same ?

Edit. Not trying to stir up shit, just curious.

Dafuq do I care what other people drive?

If it makes them happy and they can afford it, good for them. If they're driving a leased Benz, just to keep up with the Jones', it's just sad.

If you want status its all about the hypercars.

:rukidding:Is this a troll thread? Has to be, right?:derp:

It depends on what you mean by perception. Higher quality, more expensive, more reliable, what?

twitchyzero 04-25-2017 12:01 PM

where does Scion fit on your list? :derp:

I drive a Hyundai... my second one in 5 years actually. I cross shopped it with the Cadillac CTS and the BMW 5 series.

When I was at the BMW and Caddy dealers, I felt like I was buying the car for someone else and to show off to others. In the end, I went with the car that had more power, more toys and cost a whole lot less.

Buy the car, not the badge because honestly... cars these days are fairly similar in their respective classes.

All I know is that Dodge is a magnet for douchebags.

It sounds kind of troll-ey but It came from an interesting conversation I had. My buddy said if he saw a guy driving a Hyundai Elantra vs the Jetta he would assume the Jetta guy had more money (same model year). Even though they are pretty much the same price the vw brand holds more value in his opinion than Hyundai.

I asked him what about Mercedes or BMW. He said it would be the same. I asked him what about Mercedes vs Infiniti. He said the Mercedes guy looks more money.

I guess it would be perceived value.

bcrdukes 04-25-2017 02:37 PM

They're all garbage because cars are money pits and a liability :p

Adorkami 04-25-2017 02:42 PM

How do you separate luxury and exotic?

StanleyR 04-25-2017 02:42 PM

one of the stupidest threads in a while

Where does the Hyundai Genesis sedan fit?

ZN6 04-25-2017 02:54 PM

Also works on a douchebagginess scale from top to bottom.

GS8 04-25-2017 04:50 PM

In Vancouver, exotics are mainstream.

Money Laundering

I do appreciate how badhodz is giving us some insight on how some Vancouver people think....I am sure we have all thought about this to some extent.....let's face it, like it or not, cars are a personal statement no matter if you like it or not...

Chrysler, Ford, and Chevy owners less douchey than Volvo owners?

I like how piece of shit, cheap as fuck Fiat is considered the upper echelon of mainstream brands.

What a horrible meme. The tow mirrors aren't even flipped up!

Seriously, wtf is it with dodge guys and always having the mirrors flipped up?

danned 04-25-2017 09:43 PM

where is the king of the road, corolla

hud 91gt 04-25-2017 10:01 PM

I don't like how the status' have separated so much. Now were comparing status levels of Hypers cars.

When I was a kid, it was all about Honda vs Ford vs Hyundai. "You have a Honda? Oh man, nice car" haha. Now all three are just grouped into "Mainstream"

CorneringArtist 04-26-2017 05:28 AM

Factoring out the Evo, I would put Mitsubishi below Hyundai /Kia these days because all they make is boring penalty boxes that please brand loyal owners.
