Stop signs for Cyclists

Help me understand this. I have a scenario on Victoria Drive in Vancouver where cyclists are just rolling through the pedestrian crosswalk along East 10th Ave with no regard for the stop sign that they should be obeying.

I am aware that cyclists have the option to roll through stop signs now like you would with yielding signs for cars. However if I understand correctly, since it is a yielding procedure, they can only roll through the intersection if there are no other cars driving along Victoria Drive.

I had two close calls this week where I am expecting to have the right-of-way going northbound on Victoria Drive since there is no stop sign for me in that direction. In both cases, the cyclists just popped out into the intersection and I had to come to an abrupt full stop just to let them through.

I'd like to know if I was in the wrong for assuming that I have the right-of-way or if those cyclists are just fucking stupid?

Cyclists must obey all laws including stop signs. Just hit em, they will learn. Just make sure you got a dashcam

I hate it when cyclists get to pedestrian crosswalks and expect us to stop for them. I will stop for them to let them cross if they get off the bike and walk across, but I don't stop if they are still on their bike wanting to ride across the crosswalk (unless I'm stopped in traffic already and I'm in a situation where I would normally let a car out of the cross street). Basically, I treat them like another car if they stay on their bike at the crosswalks.

I live on the 10th ave bike lane near Clark. I can't count the number of times while, as a pedestrian, I have been crossing the street and cyclists just weave around me, sometimes with less than 2 feet of space in between. Some of them even have the callousness to ding that stupid little bell they have, as if pedestrians don't have the right of way. I drive, walk, and take transit all pretty equally, and I can honestly say as a pedestrian I've had more close calls with cyclists as opposed to drivers.

I'm guessing because where I usually cross is a roundabout at the end of a downhill section, the idiots don't want to stop to conserve momentum. Imagine using that excuse as a driver; "I'm sorry officer, I smoked that pedestrian because I didn't want to waste gas accelerating again".

But yes OP, cyclists, if using the road, must obey the MVA where it applies to them, specifically when it comes to stop signs, safety equipment (helmets), obeying traffic lights, right-of-way, etc. Unfortunately the majority of them do not. I just wish the VPD had the resources to pursue more aggressive cyclist enforcement.
