SLC or C class Cab?

My good ol father in law is having a mid life crisis. He wants a convertible/sports car but doesnt wanna spend 120k for an SL or a S cab.

Soooo we narrowed it down to either the C class Cab or the SLC both coming in msrp around 60-65k

SLC is like 4 grand more expensive than the C cab but it has a hardtop roof which he likes

C class cab has 4matic and semi usable back seats just in case. The seats arent that important since it'll just be him and the old lady.

which one would you guys get?

I still perceive the SLK/SLC as a "chick" car. I'd say "C" out of those two options, but personally i'd rather look at a 2 year old "E" Cab to stay in or under that price range.

SL nowadays are too big tbh, should get FIL used slk 55

Does he like cars? The car has two different driving characteristics, with the top up its like driving a mini c class. With the top down, it becomes a semi-sports car as the top weight is shifted to the rear wheels. I drove a slk last winter and had winters on and it wasn't that big of a problem.

If its gonna end up as a clai cruiser, just get the C cab.

SLC300 sounds like a diesel tho, 43 prob sounds nice but the engine is a bit choppy

Is the c class cab the C43? I'd say go for the C class as it's more car for the money and it has the updated Mercedes interior as well. Is he set on getting a convertible though?

yeah hes set on getting a convertible. He's an old man (70+) so this is his late mid life crisis car. He aint going to be racing up and down the streets, he'll just be going back and forth to dim sum / tai chi and TNT.

not a big fan of the 4 bangers on a luxury vehicle but the porsche boxster 718 is a wee bit too expensive (i dont think he'll fork out the money for it) along with the z4/428 cab (since when the fuck are these things almost 80k!!)

pretty much just base model w/ all the safety aids tacked on so he doesnt run any of us off the road when he has a UH ROhhhh chinese senior moment.

its funny his sister drives a 2013 ratrolla per my recommendation. Shes also 70+. Unfortunately he wants to be the coolest "bak" in his age bracket. Plus he's the only one left in his group of friends who still has a valid driving license that hasnt been impounded by ICBC/Cops....yet

the safety crap is just so that i dont have to clean up after him. Dont want him hitting a school bus full of nuns or something. He likes the lines of the SLC so far but i havent show him the C cab yet so ill probably take him in to the dealership shortly.

Is that soft top any good? ive only ever owned hardtop convertibles. I wonder if it'll be too noisy since 90% its raining in vancouver and he'll have it up.

Isn't the SLC being discontinued? My Dad owns an SLK great car.

Edit: they are coming out with a new version to compete with the Miata.

If a convertible is what you are looking, I think the BMW 4-serie conv. is a much better option.

It's a lot more useful and arguably drives better than C cab.

I tried pricing one out. The sucker came up to almost 80k... The old man ain't going to pay 80k when he could pay 65 for what he sees as essentially the same thing.

Has he driven a convertible with the top down before? Usually the older asians don't like to get so much sun (although, I see this with the ladies more).

70+ year old can have a chick car. Just like a Miata. My mom had a SLK350 at one point. That was a fun car in my opinion.

Old man + SC430 = Perfect target market

Nice cars. I wouldn't mind one.

Lol @ 70+ year old and midlife crisis being in the same sentence.
Do you guys have kids? If so he might want to bring the grandkid out one day so I'd suggest c-class.
