Two devices were present. One blew up and the other was blown up in a controlled detonation.

Gotta go with terrorism on this one

Though I wonder how the devices got in. Usually security is tight at these events unless the packages were brought in by a crew member?

59 deaths i heard..

yes, security was tight with no outside drinks,or backpacks inside.....but parents waiting outside the arena were massively gathered up waiting for they're children after the show.

took some people inside 15 minutes to get out after the explosion was heard, some thought a speaker blew out..

reported 2nd bomb was just a dud,i think somebody dropped something running away and it was taken with precaution, wasn't a explosive

No I'm talking about the ones that recruit naive fools into bombing random innocent people simply because they are different from them and don't fit in with their cult.

ISIS claims responsibility for the attack.

RIP to the teens, tweens who died at Manchester Arena.

#MissingInManchester

Medical officials say 12 children under the age of 16 were among the 22 people killed. About 60 others were wounded.

One of the first victims to be identified is an 8-year-old girl, Saffie Roussos.

The Islamic State group is claiming responsibility for the attack. Police have announced the arrest of a 23-year-old man in connection with the bombing.

As of now the war is happening far enough away to allow us to still feel safe. We post memorials on social media, and continue with our regular lives. But I fear that with our country's growth which is based on immigration, that it's only a matter of time before someone in Canada becomes radicalized and attacks a place that we all know. I'm not talking about the RCMP trapping low IQ individuals either.

Imagine if someone attacked a Canucks game, or placed a bomb at the PNE. It's scary to think that while most of us living here have no blood on our hands, we're still seen as the enemy.

RIP to the Manchester victims.

Why does it have to be someone who is radicalized? We've seen attacks from people with mental illness. Moncton shooting for example.

Life is tough. Cost of living is high. Lack of funding for government services. Society becoming this shitty place where just breathing or standing can offend someone. Or if someone doesn't like it, they start recording it. Stress levels build and people turn extreme.

Media is a big part of how we view this incident too as well as affecting any future incidents. I think I saw a tweet of a media channel where they said Muslim taxi driver aiding victims of concert. Shows a photo of a Sikh driver. Seriously?

Most of these major attacks are from radicalized muslims.
Moscow, London, Paris, Paris, Manchester, all ISIS supported.

But you're right highfive, mental illness is another factor. It just goes to show that you may never know who is capable of doing these horrible things. Living in the lower mainland is a great example of the lower value for human life has dropped. When folks have no issues stating publicly that fentanyl od's should be ignored. I laugh every time I hear that new ICBC commercial talking about how when you speed you don't care about other drivers. It didn't take me long to realize that I haven't care about other drivers for years, because they're fucking idiots. Go to the thread with the video of a girl being pulled into the water by a sea lion, and you'll see people wishing harm on those standing on the dock. The worst thing is, I kind of agree with them.

But I digress.....

One might argue anyone who is radicalized suffers from mental illness? They go hand in hand.

i wonder how close "over there" needs to get before it hits home. would an attack in toronto feel close enough or is that still "it will never happen to us" ?

You know how we look back at history and can see moments when the tide starts to change, and wonder if the people of that time knew it was happening or not? When you see the moments setting up the chain of events years before the big event that changes the world I wonder if the future will look back and say that the terrorists (ISIS or taliban, or whoever you want to throw in there) have been winning. I feel like a good history documentary would talk about the change in western culture over the last 10 years and say it was a remarkable timing that this terrorism started taking hold at the same time. A perfect storm.

Terrorism isn't about the number of people you kill, it is about infecting the culture of your enemy, and breaking up their unity. Empires have always fallen when they get too comfortable, and an outside force starts to win battles against them.

The problem isn't western culture.

It's the US and its allies fucking shit up in the middle east since the end of WW2.

I could see that being the case if the primary targets of attacks were western militaries and governments. Yet the majority of their attacks seem to target those who are the least involved or capable of changing global policies. It very much seems to be a problem with western culture.
