I know most fans criticized Sundin cause he wasn't what everyone expected. They wanted a point/game scorer. While his regular season was disappointing, I believe his leadership and presence helped many of the younger players on the team. He also took a small pay cut as well from Canucks' initial offer so that they could have more cap space to make additions later.
At the end, it was only half a season, it was just money, Canucks didn't trade off assets for him, he didn't handcuff the team in any way, and he produced where it counted... the playoffs.
So I don't know which match up I prefer. They will likely have to go through both and would have one of the toughest routes to the finals. This playoff format sucks.
