Bright light city gonna set my soul
Gonna set my soul on fire
Got a whole lot of money that's ready to burn
So get those stakes up higher
There's a thousand pretty women waitin' out there
And they're all livin' devil may care
And I'm just the devil with love to spare
Viva Las Vegas, viva Las Vegas
Someone needs to change the lyrics to make it VGK......... anyone up for the challenge?
Example.......
Got a whole lot of offence that's ready to score.
Use million dollar smile in there somehow (Marc-Andre not gonna fit in anywhere, gulolol).

Bright light city golden knights on fire
Gonna light the team on fire
Got a whole lot of offence that's ready to score
So get the skates all revvin'
There's a thousand blocked shots with bruises to match
And they're all alive in playoffs for sure
And I'm just a fan with cheers to spare
Viva Las Vegas, viva Las Vegas

An acquaintance of mine told me Vegas would never make it to the finals............... So many people would lose a lot of money, lol. Can you abduct an entire team...... oh wait. Just take Marc-Andre Fleury.
Then he tells me Vegas shouldn't win, because they haven't paid their dues. Uh......... tell that to the players who have been playing since they could walk and have sacrificed just as much as any other player in the NHL.
Go, Vegas, GO!!!

Meh, they haven't paid their dues as a team. But whatever, if you find a way to win 16 in the playoffs, then you deserve the cup.
I have no emotional ties with any team other than Canucks though, so I really can't join in on this wagon or whatever the reason is that everyone wants Vegas to win so badly.

So, anybody else hear about the speculations that surfaced about how Olli Juolevi supposedly has a video game addiction, and as result, has severely hindered his development this year.

The speculation was from 6-12 months ago.

Marek, who noted the information is at least six months old, maybe a year old, said the player in question is a “recent first-round draft pick for a very, very prominent NHL team.”
Also stated
Quote:
“It’s a terrible story because this guy’s a good junior hockey player,” Marek added, talking to colleague Elliotte Friedman. “This guy’s a good player and was a high (NHL) pick. And I’m probably even saying too much right there, but there’s a good chance he’s not going to make it to the NHL
Juolevi hasn't been a junior player since last spring (Marek uses present tense). He played pro hockey this season in Finland. There's also little doubt he's going to make the NHL (whether or not he's going to meet expectations of a 5th overall pick is another question), so I'd say it's very likely not Juolevi.
That said, Juolevi's former teammates in London have said he spends too much time playing video games.
I thought the car belongs to the Golden Knights. Its a work vehicle as they called it. Anyone can drive it
Correct. My bad. A car dealership donated the Aventador roadster to the VGK for the teamto drive:
The vehicle has been donated to the team for special events by Lamborghini Las Vegas of the Findlay Automotive Group. The car was hauled to the hotel on a flatbed.
Really pulling for Ovie to hoist the cup. Tampa is going to be young and talented for years to come. Only way I want Vegas to win is for the headline story it would be.
The players of the VGK deserve for sure, they were essentially the "cast-offs" of the rest of the league. It's a good story. However it's not fair for the teams like the Blues who have not been to the finals in 47 years (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...eason_droughts)... and us Canucks who have suffered so much heartbreak and never got the cup in almost 50 years...
In hindsight the "expansion draft" rules were too loose this time around. I get it they wanted a competitive team but who could have expected them to steamroll their way through the season.
The last time NHL had an expansion was Wild and Blue Jackets, IIRC they were bottom feeders for a long time.
I'm not in the boat of it ain't fair or they haven't paid their dues. I get that the rules allowed them to have a better than shitty ass team but at the end of the day if a team wins 16 games they deserve it regardless. It sucks being a Nucks fan seeing any team but us win but gotta give credit where credit is due.
With that said, I really don't care who wins but If I had to pick I'd pick Ovie. I wasn't an Ovie fan earlier in his career but he has really bought in over the years and changed and I appreciate that. It would be nice to see him at least compete for it once.

There was a big difference to be sure between the 1998-2000 expansion drafts and this one.
2000 vs. 2017
Protected list: 1 G, 5 D, & 9 F (or 2 G, 3 D, & 7 F) vs. 1 G, 3 D, & 7 F (or 1 G & 8 Skaters)
Automatically protected pros: Players w/ 2 or fewer years of NHL experience vs. Players w/ 2 or fewer years of AHL/ECHL/NHL experience
The 1998 (Nashville) and 1999 (Atlanta) drafts allowed teams to protect even more players (1 G, 5 D, & 10 F or 1 G, 6 D, & 9 F).
On top of that, this was back in the day when the waiver draft existed (between training camp and the start of the regular season; no waivers during the regular season) and players with less than 3 years of NHL experience were exempt from the waiver draft, so teams knew leading up to the 3 years of drafts that they could bury their young players in the AHL for a year or two to keep them exempt.
Meanwhile, some teams had to protect 20-year-old AHLers in the 2017 draft.
I personally feel like it should've been a protected list of 1 G, 3 D, & 6 F, but any players who are ineligible for waivers are exempt.
the cap era made this possible
thus a lot of GREAT reliable players were available and definitely not castoffs
Marc-Andre Fleury has a career year at the age of 33 with a 92.7 Sv% during the regular season and a 94.7 Sv% through 3 rounds in the playoffs.
Wouldn't have been available under old expansion rules (Murray hadn't yet played 3 NHL seasons).
William Karlsson had 50 points (18-32-50) in 183 games leading up to this season with a career shooting % of 7.7%. Scored 10-23-33 in 61 AHL games, 19-46-65 in 105 SHL games. He was never a "scorer." He certainly wasn't considered a great player by any stretch of the imagination prior to this season. He was literally the definition of a cast off. VGK agreed to select him (instead of Josh Anderson or Joonas Korpisalo, who they were concerned with losing) in exchange for taking David Clarkson's contract, the 24th overall pick, and a 2019 2nd round pick. Clarkson's contract is insured, so it wasn't costing CBJ any money, more of an annoyance having to play the LTIR game.
Scores 43-35-78 on a 23.4 S% this season.
Marchessault didn't make the NHL full time until last season, at age 26. He became a UFA early because Tampa Bay, Columbus, and NY Rangers didn't give him enough NHL games. He scored 30-21-51 but was his GM didn't like his defensive game. His GM, even as recently as this week, still speaks poorly of him. He is definitely a cast off.
Scores 27-48-75 this season.
Perron has bounced around the league the past 5 years with Vegas being his 5th team in 5 seasons. He'd put up decent offensive numbers (~40 P) but couldn't seem to stick in anyone's top 6. St. Louis probably didn't want to lose him, but he was left exposed (now teammate Ryan Reaves was bafflingly protected and then traded 2 days after the expansion draft).
Scores 16-50-66 in 70 games this season.
Reilly Smith was a salary dump from FLA. Another 2nd/3rd line tweener that put up decent offensive numbers, but FLA didn't feel like he lived up to his 5-year, $25M contract 2 seasons into it. He was a cap dump from FLA.
Scores 22-38-60 in 67 games this season.
Erik Haula scored 42-47-89 in 266 games prior to this season with a career high of 34. Was left exposed by Minnesota. Minnesota traded Alex Tuch to VGK for a 3rd round pick in exchange for VGK not selecting Dumba or Scandella (who ended up being traded to BUF 9 days after the expansion draft). Another cast off.
Scores 29-26-55 this season.
James Neal, probably the one everyone was expecting to be the star player in VGK, scores 25-19-44 this season.
Colin Miller didn't make the NHL full time until last season ends up scoring 41 points from the back end this season. I don't know if I'd call him a cast off or victim of the salary cap. Good scouting?
Nate Schmidt was a 3rd pair defender for WSH, career high 17 points. Scores 36 from the back end. I think most thought VGK would take Grubauer (who was also excellent this season). WSH protected Carlson, Niskanen, and Orlov (can't blame them there; they're all better dmen).
...
To summarize, I wouldn't say they were gifted a championship team, but they did have a more favourable expansion draft than previous expansion teams. They made a lot of good moves that took advantage of the favourable draft rules and had a lot of luck/determination/good coaching to put themselves into the situation they're currently in.
The crazy thing about the Knights is all the rookies they drafted last year and are going to draft this year. This team is going to be stacked if the draft picks pan out for them.
I find it odd no one has really been talking about that part of the team but I guess they don't need too since look what the current roster is doing.
