I also don't buy the VGK don't deserve to win the Stanley Cup, 'they haven't paid their dues', BS. Ask the players on the team who have been chasing the Cup for years. Are teams mailing it in and letting them advance to next round ?? I don't think it was any easier to put together a well structured team of so called misfits, including the coach himself. VGK played by the rules given them, they were smart, they had a plan and a vision ... good on them. If they win, no astericks ... they fully deserve it and it will be one for the history books that goes beyond just NHL and into any professional sports team.
I mean before this year, have you seen this brand of fast, back and forth, hard on the puck forecheck/backcheck style before? Now everyone is talking and aspiring to put together a team that plays this new new style.

Well said.
They put a team of nobodies together and are reaping the rewards.
Would I be pissed if yet another expansion team won a cup before the Canucks?! Sure, and I should be. But we can't blame the Knights for the success they're having. The hockey they're playing is amazing, and is a huge part of the reason they're in the finals now.
Looking forward to seeing what the Caps and Bolts are going to do tonight. Do I wear my Caps jersey? Or my Lightning jersey?!?
Agree that Vegas GM did a masterful job. However I think it's fair to say they wouldn't have MAF or Neal and the team would look quite different if it was still 2000 expansion rules.
VGK betting favourites for the SCF. Those people who put down some $$ on Vegas at the beginning of the season or bought a bet along the way are riding this improbable story all the way to the bank if the Knights pull this off. And it looks like they very well might.
Will Ovie be the Dan Marino of NHL?
This is one SCF that I kinda wish both teams could win and will be somewhat disappointing for the losing one. Strange, no hate for any one of the two teams.
This Capitals team is playing different from teams in previous years.
They are less talented on paper than teams from previous season. Washington is winning with defence instead of explosive offence.
Ovie is doing whatever it takes to win a championship. -sacrificing his body to make big hits, playing defence, and scoring goals.
I have never seen Ovie put so much effort in back checking.
Kuznetsnov has also been playing well throughout the playoffs as the team points leader in the post season.
As for goaltending, Holtby has stood on his head for the past two games.
Ever since Trotz started the backup Grubauer at the start of the playoffs, Holtby has played pretty well when the coach decided to switch goalies.
You can see the coach getting all the players to buy in on playing defence in order to get to the Finals.
The Caps are playing a trap with one forward high up on the forecheck and four players back on the blueline.
Tampa had so much trouble trying to break through the trap because of the Caps defensive strategy and the unwillingness of Stamkos, Kucherov etc to dump the puck into the Caps zone and chase for the puck. That is not Tampa's style.
It will be interesting to see if Vegas' speedy forwards can get past Washington's trap in the neutral zone.
the VGK have lost a whole 3 games this entire playoffs so far. Think about that, with all the rest they seem to be healthy and I honestly think they are going to pick apart the Caps like they have done to everyone else.
Who thought the playoffs were going to be such a cake walk for them.
I am not surprised the knights have done so well. If you look at their make up of team do they really have any rookies in their line up? no. Having an expansion team pretty much gave them free reign to pick a lot of decent players and put other teams in tuff spots. IE Mcphee pretty much making side deals with teams that wanted to protect certain players by getting picks or trades in return. Their whole team is pretty much made up of decent talented players....
