Assuming our D is:

Edler-Stecher
Hutton-Tanev
???-Gudbranson
Biega
???

We have $19.5M in cap space spent on 17 players currently, but that doesn't include Horvat and Miller, which you have to figure is going to combine for around $10M

So $9.5M to spend on 4 more guys. I guess we COULD drop $4-$5M on a 2nd/3rd pair dman, but is that a smart idea?

murd0c 06-25-2017 07:08 PM

sounds like its time to finally bring up Jordan Subban

Jmac 06-25-2017 07:15 PM

We need two more LHD to fill those holes, though. He can take Biega's spot (not that Biega is bad, but he's nothing special).

dbaz 06-25-2017 07:26 PM

I'm thinking we stay away from a large contract with miller.

Jmac 06-25-2017 08:20 PM

Alzner-Tanev would make a good shutdown duo, but then that leaves Hutton-Gudbranson which wasn't good last year.

Alzner-Gudbranson wouldn't move the puck well enough.

Maybe Alzner-Stecher and re-unite Edler-Tanev (but still same issue w/ Hutton-Guddy)

Jordan Weal, meh ... Maybe for Utica.

dbaz 06-25-2017 08:26 PM

thinking if we sign alzner, tanev or hutton are gone. id prefer kulikov to alzner when playing with gudbranson. just because they have done decent together before

also chiarelli has said he will match any offer sheet for draisaitl. hope the habs offer 9mil for the hell of it

Pretty shitty list for UFA this year

SAM GAGNER??

Nice thing about Hutt-Gud pairing is at least they're both young enough to hopefully still improve.

That and Gud has a lot to prove this season...glad he only got 1 year. If he shits the bed this year, he's as good as gone.

Selanne is entering the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. No surprise.

Finnish Flash gets his recognition.

Nail Yakupov will not be qualified by the Blues, will be a UFA

I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him, bottom six role at best, Utica call up option at worst. Doubt KHL will be interested in him either.

Gotta be an upgrade over Megna at the very least, right
:fuckthatshit:

Bouncing Bettys 06-26-2017 09:36 AM

Every kid on my team, including myself, was copying Selanne.

Would've been $2.5M to qualify him, so not surprised.

Kulikov is meh and Alzer apparently sucked last season (he does fulfill the need for LHD) because he can't skate and his positioning was poor. There was an article where he talks about blocking so many shots that he has difficulty opening jars now.

2017 NHL Free Agents Tracker | Spotrac

Based on that list, I'd probably try and get a guy like Franson (RHD - 29 @ 3.325m) or value signings like Hunwick (LHD - 32 @ 1.2m), Hainsey (LHD - 36 @ 2.8m), Smith (LHD - 28 @ 2.75m) or even Campbell (LHD - 38 @ 1.5m)

We're not going after the guys that will produce big numbers like Shattenkirk, Markov etc. Canucks are realistically another 3+ seasons away from being competitive, so they really just need to sign some veteran LHD guys to help tide them over and mentor the younger D guys. Having cheaper vets like Hainsey and Campbell can do that, although, I'm not entirely too sure as to whether Campbell is sticking to CHI or not.

Selanne, Kariya head Hockey Hall of Fame's Class of 2017 - Article - TSN

Finnish Flash and his close friend and former teammate will be inducted with Dave Andreychuk, Mark Recchi, Danielle Goyette and builders Clare Drake and Jeremy Jacobs.

dead

dbaz 06-26-2017 12:09 PM

alzner has a bunch of red flags. admitted his wife has to open jars for him because he has no strength in his hands due to all the bones broken from blocked shots. rather give holm a shot and tank I guess.
Also prefer weal over yakupov

boucher, gaunce, labate, chaput all qualified. still no confirmation on them qualifying bo

dbaz 06-26-2017 12:46 PM

ugh, hope its just because bure played here

6o4__boi 06-26-2017 01:00 PM

Like i said, pretty low risk signing a guy like Yak here. Given a decent set up man, he could be a 10-15 goal scorer.

I'd rather see him get some minutes over Megna or Chaput.

Ty Rattie was also not qualified. Went unclaimed at the waivers last season. I wouldn't mind him either.

Basically lots of decent low risk stop gaps available while the kids develop, it couldn't hurt.

Expresso 06-26-2017 01:03 PM

Sign for 1 year, trade to contender!

Jmac 06-26-2017 01:17 PM

If it's for less than $1M on a 1-year deal, sure.

dbaz 06-26-2017 01:34 PM

I don't see room on the team and I doubt he wants to go to the ahl

sedin-sedin- granlund
baer-bo-boeser
Eriksson-sutter-goldobin
boucher-gaunce-dorsett
weal?rodin?

murd0c 06-26-2017 01:35 PM

I wonder if we are even going to resign Rodin

6o4__boi 06-26-2017 01:42 PM

Boucher yet to be re-signed, Goldobin isn't a slam-dunk to make the team.

Aren't Granlund, Gaunce and Dorsett injured and will likely be missing training camp/first few months?

Pretty sure I saw somewhere that Rodin is going back to Europe, I could be wrong though.

dbaz 06-26-2017 01:43 PM

^rodin said he was interested in staying with vancouver

seems too quiet from canucks. 5pm et deadline for rfa's and no news on bo or rodin being qualified lmao
